But even though he won, he was out of prime then (like Mayweather is now)
Floyd never fought 7 times in 3 months. THAT'S the difference.

It's no walk in the park having to promote all the time, do a reality series, train etc.

I seriously think that Mayweather would prefer to just train and fight guys with a record of 40-20 than to have to do all of the stuff he has to do now at his age.

You can only scream and yell and do reality shows and then have to fight for so long. Its been stale since 2008.

There isn't the pool of fighters or characteristics in the sport for guys with records as you refer to.

Today the equivalent could even be undefeated, a few losses and a draw perhaps.

Oh yes there are, never underestimate the amount of journeymen that can be counted. There are only a select few with a schedule of a Mayweather or a Pacquiao and that's mainly because of touring, the press, the shows, etc.

I wasn't referring to what you are defining as journeymen, but boxing records and activity in the present day.

I disagree, it seems the norm today for a top ten fighter to only have 3 fights over a calender year.

Izzy Jannazzo. Record of 46-27-13 when Robinson first tangled with him. Would you class him as a journeyman?

I consider Iz a good contender most certainly but that wasn't during the stretch in which we're talking about when Robinson got worked over by Turpin.

I was just using Jannazzo as an example of records not being illustrative of quality in contrast to today's "zero" hang-up. But it seems I went off on a tangent.

Yeah that specific convo was more between Ziggy and I. I take it you're a big Robinson fan

I wouldn't say I'm not a fan. But I'm not some rabid fan either... despite current form.

At the moment he's the guy I'm interested in - so posts related will probably get me motivated enough to post.

Cool stuff man - You'll love this read about an incident Robinson got into with a murderer's row guy-
