Choosing between Harry Greb and Ezzard Charles is so hard. I think Grebs resume is deeper than Charles and probably anyones. But I think Charles's peak years were more impressive than Greb's and arguably anybodies peak.

From the end of WWII and on until Charles lost his heavyweight title to Jersey Joe he had 30+ fights against elite opposition and lost just once. His lone defeat was both disputed and later avenged. He beat Moore x3, Bivins x3, Marshall x2, Walcott x 2, Oakland Billy Smith x2, Lesnevich and Louis all in the space of 5 years.

I'm not sure if anyone's peak years rivalled Charles'. SRR maybe.

Ok, well if you want to just point to the losses,, look at how many losses that SRR, Greb, Charles, had to inferior opponents,,

          Ali beat foreman
          beat frazier twice
          beat norton twice
          beat liston twice
          beat young
          beat lyles

Deepest division of any era in history and past his prime he was #1...

Name another fighter that can say that

No one is saying they dominated though. Ali has great wins and a great resume without the added hyperbole, ya know?

Ok, maybe he didnt dominate, but did as well as anyone could in that era, and he was clearly the #1 guy

I just think if we are going to toss out a handful of names with absolute great resumes then Ali has to be in the discussion..
Not saying he has the best, but just one of the best,, he deserves to be mentioned alongside SRR, Greb, Armstrong, Ezzard,
You can make a strong case for any of the guys, but to leave Ali out is not accurate IMO

I think Ali is in the bottom tier top 10 alongside guys like Pep, Duran, Benny Leonard, etc.

... and we can add 2 names to that list: Leo Houck and Jeff Smith.

He fought more HOFers than any other boxer: 16
He defeated more HOFers than any other boxer: 15
He has more wins over HOFers than any other boxer: 33

He also has arguably the best single year ever in boxing: 1919 where he went 45-0... with 10 of those wins coming against HOFers! Just think about it - that's like Floyd Mayweather's entire career crammed into one year!!

IMO Greb has the best resume ever.

Does that mean there can be a case made for Greb being the best ever? Or would it make more sense to rank him at 2 behind Robinson?

Having the best resume and being the "best" are two different things - though of course not completely unrelated.

Whether Greb was the best ever (in a p4p, h2h sense) is an open question, since we have never seen him in action. From what I have seen with my own eyes (on film), coupled with his resume... I'd probably go with SRR as the best ever.
