you gotta have spinks on the list,,, he beat holmes twice, and was part of the biggest heavyweight fight since frazier-ali 3,, even though he lost to tyson, it was still the biggest heavy fight of the 80s

    Please post your lists,,,

Holmes should've got the decision in those fights with Spinks though, in at least one of them anyway. Larry's big mouth ended his title reign more than anything.

Larry Holmes was an excellant champ and one of the best competitors in ANY weight class. That guy came to win in his prime. He got screwed against Spinks and theres no way he lost the first fight, remember he was abit long in the tooth by then. Mike did a good job against Larry but Mikes praise was at lyHvy, one of the best ever!

        Holmes
        Holyfield
        Tyson
        Witherspoon

        ........then the rest

Witherspoon was always one of my favorites from that era.

I dont see how bruno could make it,,, he would fight his way into a big fight and then get ko'd in the big fights,,,,

I honestly dont think he makes the top 10 of the 80s or 90s,,, I think he just received alot of attention because he was the only marketable british heavy at the time,, Had he been american i dont think he would have got the publicity he received,,
Maybe im being to harsh on Frank, but i have always felt he alittle overrated

@Sugar Adam Ali....... .good comments about Spoon.

If he'd been more dedicated to his running/diet and staying active and did not burn-up energy/get demoralised through his various acidic and corrosive spats with King...then I think we'd be talking about a major champ, rather than an interesting footnote.

As a young fan I can remember the way he turned-up in the UK looking like a guy who'd trained solely on cheeseburgers and Buds. Bruno was a beast, fighting at home, the bigger one-hit puncher and younger man.

But Tim, who pretty much wobbled his way to the ring, used his experience, tucked in his chin and expertly rode and blocked Bruno's shots before turning the tide and beating Frank with something to spare.

I still think that fight was a masterclass and showed that Witherspoon could beat a big puncher, away from home, whilst not being in any kind of shape by backing his brain and reflexes.

Four months later he got flattened by Smith inside a round...the very same Smith Frank had very nearly beaten before getting dumb in the final round!

                      1.Mike Tyson
                      2.Larry Holmes
                      3.Michael Spinks
4.Tony Tucker - one of two men to go 12 rounds with a prime Tyson and had a win over Buster Douglas.
5.Evander Holyfield -the only non-champion i'll rate that high.
6.Trevor Berbick - went 15 rounds with Holmes, wins over Tate, Page and Thomas.
                      7.Pinklon Thomas
                      8.Tim Witherspoon
                      9.Tony Tubbs
                      10.Greg Page

Have to change my 9th and 10th ranking on Weaver and Smith.
