It's funny how people question Toney now that he's an old fat bum when he came from middleweight to knock out a still good version of Holyfield when not even Lennox Lewis was able to.

Nice playing devils advocate to my devils advocate when I wasn't even talking to you, cheif.
1: I couldn't care less if you were, or were not, talking to me.

2: Age is irrelevant here, what is relevant is experience. Hopkins was effectively a 3 year pro (I think we can perhaps discount his first fight in 88) with practically zero amateur experience. Jones was a 4 year pro with a fairly extensive and distinguished amateur career. Hopkins having two extra pro fights and 4 years on Jones hardly closes that gap in experience.

3: Are you seriously suggesting that the version of Holyfield that fought Toney is comparable with the version that fought Lewis? Toney was a fine fighter and an impressive win for Jones but he was not an ATG.

I don't think the weight drop had anything to do with it. RJJ was already about 35 then; his reflexes slowed; and he was fighting someone who wasn't intimidated by his rep. He was no longer the RJJ of old.
Ok then, if the weight drop had nothing to do with it why did the other good fighters I mentioned have the same issues with similar weight drops? Byrd got blew away by a ham and egger and Chambers looked like a complete bum in his last fight and lost basically every round to a complete unknown.

Age definitely had a lot to do with it but the weight drop effectively ended Roy's career as the virtuoso P4P stalwart.

Don't be fooled by my red rep power, that's just due to one jerk administrator calling in a hit on me.

I care if I was talking to you and you can p*ss off for being a smart a55.

If you think Hopkins just turned pro out of prison and had no experience prior, you need to stop claiming to know so much about boxing.

I've already made my points in this thread so bye.

Robinson should just come to the ring with a ******* because it would yield the same results.

If you had any sense at all you would let this horrible thread die on its own. You sure aren't doing yourself any favors perpetuating it.

A guy gets more respect when he is further back in time or dead etc but the reality is Roy Jones Jr would destroy him and is alot more dominant in his prime. Sugar Rays career is chequered with losses all the way through. Prime roy was untouchable. Also Roy is so fast and athletic guys like Ray couldnt touch him, look at their highlights side by side you cant tell me Roy isnt by far the better fighter and pysical specimin!? Rays so slow, unathletic, lacks power, the guys he fights lack power. I could go on. Ray couldnt/didnt rise up the weight divisions like Roy did either.
Robinson was in his prime at WW and no body beat him there he demolished everything that moved he was like 85-0 or something he had a ton of knock outs at that weight to and plenty at 160 to say he didn't hit hard was uncoordinated and slow is crazy the man had 100 something knock outs. But prime for prime jones sparks him any where above 160 jones at 160 couldn't get bhop outta there and his chin is no where near as good as srr so that's going the distance a close to prime Robinson could give jones a tough fight at 160 they were close in height and reach roy was just bigger.

Thanks for letting us know that you didn't follow Jones while he was in his prime.

Everything? Jones was faster better foot work better reflexes could throw better combo's Robinson was beat by fighters he shouldn't have been do you really think jones would lose to bassilio? Or fullmer?
Or lamota I know Robinson was out weighed but come on.

If anything jones took alot of ray robinson's moves and used them him self and improved on it.

He could brawl and take a punch better tho ill give you that.
