Ali's resume is significantly better than Louis' and it has to be said that Louis' footwork was very slow, he was far too much of a plodder and that surely would have caused him great problems if he had had better opponents to fight in his era than he actually had. The lip was mightier than the bomber.
1) The Farr, Conn and Walcott fights very much demonstrate Louis's technical trouble with movers. Ali was bigger, faster and more elusive than all three.....plus for me, his amazing punch resistance rules out Louis's tendency to score knockouts when behind on points.
2) Chappie Blackburn himself felt that Johnson would have beaten Louis. I rate his opinion. If Johnson could beat Louis, then I think Ali would be more emphatic, despite the stylistic differences.
3) I don't see any of the guys who Louis beat actually beating Ali. But I do have my doubts as to how well Louis might have coped with Liston or Foreman.
No doubt, the fight would be terrific......and both deserve respective #1 and #2 spots.

I see Foreman as the only one with the ability to drop Louis. Liston and Frazier put up good fights but fall. I'm counting out Holmes considering Ali was old and battered by then.

Frazier 71 would have a helluva chance to beat Louis IMO,,
