Roy fought at 168 for less than 2 years, Collins didn't even have a belt until he beat Eubank and so that leaves less than a year for that fight to possibly happen and Liles was fighting nobodies on showtime.

Neither Liles or Collins followed Roy up to 175 to continue to pursue a fight with Roy.

at 168, Jones reigned from Nov 94 to Oct 96 (IBF), Collins reigned from March 95 to July 97 (WBO), Liles reigned from Aug 94 to June 99 (WBA). I'm sure there are good reasons why these bouts were never made and I don't believe it would be because Jones avoided them, but let's quit pretending it's because of the time frames. There was plenty of time to make these fights at 168. As I stated. Jones could beat both of these guys at the same time, but both would have been an improvement over the challengers Roy did fight at 168

less than 2 years is not a lot of time for a major fight to happen and it was less than a year for

major fights do NOT take more than a year to make. What's your point here?

Yes they usually do take a very long time when you don't fight on the same continent and/or the same network

Srl fought benetiz, duran twice, and hearns in about 24 months,,,

Oscar fought undefeated ike, tito, shane, in about a year and a half

It doesnt take along time to make major fights if one of the guys is the biggest draw in the division,,,,

Roy should have made more fights,,,After the toney win he was the face of the division and of the lower weights in general...

If roy really wanted to fight guys like benn, G-man, eubanks, nunn, collins, liles, he could have fought them, or at least a few of them,,,,

But why would roy do that when he had a guaranteed contract with hbo paying him millions to fight bums like vinny paz, byrd, lucas, brannon....
Especially when there are idiots out there that will defend roy, and make every excuse in the world about why every significant fight didnt get made,, And those same idiots will talk about how great roy's opponents were, and how they were all ranked guys, like that really means anything in a sport with well-known garbage sanctioning bodies,,,

Roy was a great talent but his resume is very thin compared to oscar, srl, floyd, etc.....

Roy didnt start taking big fights till he was a shell of himself,,, Yet some consider him the GOAT or top 5 ATG which just makes me chuckle since to be considered a top guy, dont you have to beat the other top guys,,,,

But there will be some nuthugger that will say he beat everyone at lhw and list off and old hill and an ancient 154 fighter mccallum at 175 and say look, those are great wins....

Not trying to rip down roy jones and say he was a bum but the dude didnt go out of his way to make any fights during his prime,,, He beat alot of b-level fighters, but take away the toney win and his prime has a very weak resume,,,
You can count hopkins, but at the time-hopkins wasnt viewed as a huge threat, he was more of a FNF level fighter, obviously he wasnt but at the time that was the view on bhop....

good post. Totally agree. What puzzles me is that I think Roy would have easily handled Collins, Liles, Benn, Eubank, and McClellen.

All the examples you used were fighters based in the same country and/or fought on the same network.

G-man and Eubanks vs Roy were never realistic fights. As discussed already in this thread the only time Nunn was realistic Roy turned it down and ended up taking a MUCH tougher fight.

Collins, Liles and Benn were realistic fights but in the very limited time Roy spent at 168 none of the fights developed and none of the 3 moved up to 175 to continue to purse a fight.
