Not an ATG or a HOF'er but that's not an insult by any means. He had a solid career with the victories over Margarito and Martinez.

      everybody deteriorates.

williams had taken huge bombs in victory and defeat for years. he also showed his chin again against lara after the martinez fight. the guy had a great chin, especially for a 6'2" welterweight ....

His resume is far too lacking for him to be HOF worthy, but he'll likely get in on the back of sympathy votes, anyway.

I don't think he beat Martinez, either. And I'm not alone in that sentiment.

Williams was a pretty good fighter, height and reach combined with workrate and pressure, plus he was southpaw. I think on his day Williams gives many good and great fighters trouble with his style.

He didnt accomplish enough to be an ATG, or even a hof fighter but he will probably get in because of his accident, I wouldnt really object either, tragic seeing potential cut short like that.

Im just gonna say it straight out, Williams is neither hall of fame worthy or an ATG. he had heart, he was gun to watch, but his resume lacks big time when you really get down to it.

Yes true, that's why I meant only in that fight did his chin not look as good. One of my favorites in recent history, but the guy had trouble making adjustments, he kept getting caught with the same overhand left against Lara that he got caught with against Martinez, you'd think he'd have trained and prepared for that. Too bad he didn't get that last big payday before he had to retire, kind of sad IMO, but, then again, he seems to be in good spirits these days, so can't feel too bad for the guy.

Paul Williams had the height, reach, chin, and (workrate) stamina to give any welterweight in history a tough fight win or lose IMO. To bad None of the other top welterweights gave him a chance. He beat a PRIME Margarito who a couple fights later made Cotto quit and im a Cotto. I know he lost to Quitana but he knocked him out the first round the next fight. But he isn't a ATG and a HOF'er . but if he did get in the Hall then ima be cheering for him. he did nothing but fight because he was a fighter and plus he used to fight at welterweight, jr middle, and middle at the same time. Loved to throw blows with anybody. One of my ALL TIME FAVORITES.

Was a decent champ of the day and a truly tragic, awful situation, but he is not remotely close to being a HOFer.

This HOFer thing has to stop! Every champion today is talked about as a HOFer. It baffles me no end.

I've noticed that too. I think a lot of has to do with so many fighters getting in when they didn't deserve it. I would be surprised if Williams got in the HOF. The same with Diego Corrales. But I didn't think Gatti would have gotten in either and he did although he was not HOF material or even close.
