I was waiting for that...and YOU . Jones moved up when Nunn was his mandatory. Well, sort of.
Jones obviously saw him as a threat. Lampley the following year would say during round 8 of Jones-R.Johnson that, "Jones know has some experience fighting southpaws, in the past he didn't like the idea of having to fight a southpaw and didnt want to fight any of them."
Seth Abraham also stated that Jones vacated the belt to avoid having to deal with Nunn.
But that shouldnt of happened. A guy is constantly blinking and no one seems to notice. I watched that fight live and I was thinking to myself whats wrong with McClellan?

Did you see Nunn at 175? There's a reason he lost to Rochigianni. The idea that Jones - who always wanted to move up to heavyweight and was talking about it prior to Nunn being anything at 175 (maybe Roy could see the future?) - opted to fight Buster Douglas because he was ducking a faded Nunn is a little far-fetched. A younger Nunn gives Roy problems. The one who fought Graciano? Not so much.
On another note, the love-hate relationship between HBO and Jones has always been interesting. It's the network's fault; Jones' contract was absurd. And the last one of it's kind as Roy ****ed the game up for every other fighter after him.
What's worse is that McCelllan tried to take a knee Asaro waved him on and said you can't take it. Disturbing fight. What is even worse is the way that King couldn't even be bothered to see if his fighter was alright and started fawning over Benn instead.

What's worse were the Showtime announcers. Everyone that night failed.

Everytime a decent tall rangy southpaw with a awkward style came Jones way he tried to get out of it. Him arranging the Buster Douglas fight came after he had vacated the belt and claimed he was going to retire.

To be honest if I was him I would of done the same thing. You going to pay me 2m no matter who I face? Cool.
He did mess it up for other fighters- but oh well.

As soon as the ITV guys realised something was wrong they cut the interview and saw to McClellan. King, Pacheco and Benn started talking about the fight instead. That fight killed my interest in boxing for many years.
King would visit McClellan in hospital and say to his trainer, Stan.,"He quit liked a damned dog."
He had clearly slipped a couple of steps, no doubt, but he looked decent in the Rudy Nix fight.
. You bein facetious? ****ing Michael Nunn, man. What a waste.
He lost because he didnt follow the game plan. You can hear Goosen constanlty shouting at him to follow the plan.
Everyone that loses didn't follow the plan. He lost to Rochigianni. Straight up, that's all you need to know about Nunn at LHW.

That's true. I guess that's why Jones made twelve defenses at LHW, eight of which came against southpaws. And Roy Jones never retired. He didn't vacate the belt saying he was retiring. He vacated the belt because he was moving up to HW.

Yeah, I can't knock him for fleecing the man. And mandatories are the price you pay when you're undefeated (see: Hopkins, Bernard). But God, those were lean years.
