He said Jack was much better than Jeffries, who Prime Sam wouldn't fight.Originally posted by JAB5239 View PostSam fought top white contenders, it was just frowned upon for a black man to fight for the title. As far as Jeff goes, whe he retired Sam was still fighting lightweights and welterweights so its pretty much a moot point to even discuss it.
you must be a white guy.
lol lol lol
for most of Sam's carrier in order for him to fight a white fighter he had to lose the first fight.
and it was like that for most black fighters.

You sound very ignorant of the facts of the era and of Langfords resume. You claimed he wasn't allowed to fight white contenders yet he fough Gunboat Smith, Iron Hague, Fulton, Ketchel, Elbows McFadden and Jim Flynn, all contenders in their era and all of them white.
Being white or black has nothing to do with be knowledgeable of the facts so don't be bringing that crap to this section.

I didn't know what it meant so I looked it up. Fell in love with Sam's story.
I know quite a lot about his resume, including some funny stories.

Why do you think he didn't get a title shot despite fighting in every weight class and being feared so much that he was often forced to where bigger gloves than his opponent.

I said not if he didn't lose to them first, ….like Jim Barry, who Langford supposedly got knocked out by in the 6th round of there first fight. But Langford beat his ass the next 9 times they fought.
Ifr you're familiar with Langford as you say you would know that Langford often took unknown opposition lightly and didn't always come to fight in shape. Moyles book on Langford tells much about this and talks of the first Barry fight and this being the case were Sam lost a newspaper decision. If you have contrasting information or proof this fight was tanked (something Sam said he NEVER did), I'd like to hear it.
I have knowledge of the fact that being black ****** back then, no matter your occupation, trying not to factor that into your analysis of history is doing no one any good.

Also, I'd like to know where you got the information he was forced to wear bigger gloves than his white (i assume thats what you're talking about) opponents.
I didn't bring it in the section, History did.
