There really isn't a single department that Tyson is superior, or even equal, to prime Louis in. They are close in hand speed, but Louis hit far harder and more accurately. He has better footwork, better defensive skills, and I'd even give him an equal chin. Louis had MUCH better stamina, not that he'd need it against Tyson. Honestly, being fair and objective, I think Tyson could last two or three rounds. But eventually Louis would tag him, hard. And Tyson never fought anyone who hit like Louis.
Tyson was too much for the great Joe Louis, just like he was too much for Dempsey and Marciano. Tyson only had problems with slick boxers, but what puncher doesn't? Lewis didn't have the foot movement to move away hard pressing fighter like Tyson. No way Louis could have stood flat footed and toe to toe with Tyson. I have Tyson winning by KO within 3 rounds. Foreman and Frazier also would have been too much for him. Louis was great for his time, had a great career compared to most fighters, but that doesn't mean he would have beat them. Just like Marciano's undefeated record doesn't mean he was the greatest heavyweight ever. I think even Wlad could have beaten Lewis. His style and size would have allowed him to outpointed Louis over 12 rounds. No disrespect intended, I love Louis.
lol im sorry but thats just pure comedy.you dont put tyson and gallento in the same sentence
joes only chance at beating tyson is a decision, which given joes chin doesnt seem likely
Probably so, that does leave a bad taste in my mouth, even mentioning that fatass bum Galento >.<
Yes that would be Joe's weakness here, his sometimes shoddy chin. Tyson's weakness is that he is somewhat open when he throws a bomb, Louis is fast enough to capitalize on that.

That is downright blasphemy.
Louis has deceptively fast foot-speed and hand-speed according to many opponents.
I've always fancied Mike's chances in this matchup. Certainly the Tyson of the mid to late 80s.
There were plenty of nights in his prime where Louis turned up sub par............against Farr, Schmelling 1, Conn, Galento and frankly I think Tyson would be too much for him on these nights. Would anyone pick the Louis who met Schmelling first time to beat 1988 Tyson? Thought not!!
I cant think of many times that Louis faced such a quick, fast paced, dangerous starter......who was not far off his equal in terms of speed and power. There is a risk of Louis getting caught cold, before having the chance to show his superior skills or stamina, Tyson was a ruthless finisher.
Chin? For all that Tyson could be stopped late, he did have an ungodly ability to take ridiculously hard punches early on in fights.....I cant envisage an early Louis blowout despite his excellent tools.
For what its worth I'll say Tyson by stoppage within 6 rounds. Louis would of course have as good a chance as anyone were he to get past the middle rounds, but he may have absorbed a fair amount of punishment before then.
As said earlier this is an interseting maych up which every outcome is perfectly plausible (almost).
My take on it would be Louis by Late KO.
The early rounds would be a struggle for Louis and he could possibly be knocked-down once or twice but, Louis versatility would pull him through a nervous rounds 4-6. By this time Tyson is gassing and Luois superior stamina comes into play and, as he lands more convincingly and Tyson begins to get frustrated. This is where the key moment in the fight is for me. Louis spots all the new formed weaknesses in the now tired Tyson and peppers him with jabs and right hands all the way through rounds 9-11 before setting up the big one in Round 12 which looks much like the Lennox Lewis KO but, more destructive OR, Tyson quits on his stool before Round 12 can begin.

All "slick" boxers and the biggest names of the era when Tyson fought them and they all got destroyed.
Tyson had very little trouble with "slick" boxers because he was an expert at slipping punches, getting where he wanted, and he was fast enough to throw hard missiles and land on his opponents.
Tyson really only had trouble with any style when he got out of prison and his head head movement, evasiveness, and overall speed was either totally gone or greatly lacking.
He did however look very bad in his fights with Bruno and Douglas, as if he were a totally different fighter. He just didn't move the same and stopped "boxing" but was a one dimensional "slugger." Even so his tremendous speed and power still gave him the ability to beat most people in the division.
