A few years ago I would have said the same thing. Then later on I thought it might be a even fight. But after watching more of Joe Louis I think he knocks out Tyson.
I could see them swapping KO's over a series of fights, but for a one-off, Louis was the more complete fighter &, more significantly, the much, much more composed & intelligent one.
Hairy fight for both men, but I suspect Louis gets it done. You won't find two Heavyweights in history with a more frightening power-to-handspeed ratio anywhere down through the years.

This
Joe fought men that were much stronger than Tyson, Abe Simon and Primo Carnera
Men that had much more terrifying power, Max Baer and Tony Galento(Supposedly)

I'm sure you've answered this a million times, but curiosity is killing this cat --- what is she saying in that signature? LOL.

lol im sorry but thats just pure comedy.you dont put tyson and gallento in the same sentence
joes only chance at beating tyson is a decision, which given joes chin doesnt seem likely
I think many people let Tyson's punching power overshadow his other abilities. In his prime, he was as complete as any boxer, and in his young prime, was the textbook definition of "composed." He never lost his cool or got frustrated in the ring, even when guys tried to hold and lay on him.
His footwork was superb. His punching power is up there with the best of them, his chin was GRANITE, his hand speed was unmatched in the heavyweight division (he may not have throw flurries as quick as Ali, but when you can throw 4 and put a guy out for 3 days, you don't need to), and his combination punching was the best that I have ever seen in the history of the heavyweight division.
Defensively, he was an incredibly hard target to hit. He could slip punches fairly easily and nobody had an easy time landing on him. He was also a tremendous puncher from BOTH HANDS.
Joe Louis was a phenomenal boxer but I'm finding it difficult to see him survive a Tyson onslaught.

Tyson KO within 5 to 8 rounds.
Hey, if my interpretation of Tyson was as lofty as yours here, I'm sure I'd find it difficult to see Louis surviving too!
Tyson really seems to polarise observers. I see where a lot of what you're syaing stems from, & I am by no means one of his nay-sayers, but I don't subscribe to him being quite as good as you (& some others) see him, either.
He is definitely a match for Louis physically, & let no one deny that. They are two of the most preter-natural HW's ever. I do feel Tyson was more vulnerable than Louis mentally, & not quite as technically-proficient, either.
In short, Louis is a little better physically, & a good deal better mentally --- as I see it. The only views I really switch off to in a fight between these two are the ones assuring us one or the other can't possibly win.
Joe Louis & Mike Tyson were much too dangerous to ever be put in the situation where one couldn't realistically KO the other. Louis has all the tools to knock Tyson out, & vice-versa.

Would you explain how Louis was tougher mentally? I am not understanding as from what I have seen he didn't turn into a trainwreck until after prison and his fight with Holyfield.
Tyson never quit, even after losing EVERY ROUND to Buster Douglas and taking as bad a beating as I had ever seen in modern times and stayed on his feet for 10 rounds and continued to fight, even landing a knockdown of his own. If he were as mentally weak as most people try to make him out to be, he would not have lasted as long as he did in that fight.
I do believe that Tyson has more tools that Louis in his arsenal, and I also believe that when it comes to the weapons they share, Tyson has the bigger ones.
He was faster hands, more evasive, and hit harder with BOTH hands (he could knock you out with either hand with any punch - uppercut, hook, straight) and could take a punch as good as any. Do you disagree with this last sentence? Or do you believe Louis trump's Tyson in those critical areas of handspeed, power, chin, and two handed punching power?
edit: not to mention Tyson was physically bigger and stronger.
