SRL as a ducker is funny. He had a serious eye problem and retired in 1982 and 1984, so it is hilarious that he is accused for ducking people for 8 years.

I also dont want to hear apologists make excuses for Duran in 1989, when he had recently won the Middleweight title beating Iran Barkley when he fought for the 3rd time, and even Hagler who did the fight said Duran looked in good shape. Here is math 2+2=4, Duran vs SRL is a bad match for Duran when SRL uses his lateral movement and hand speed, it is that simple. As for Tommy, i love Tommy but he was on ***** street atleast twice in his rematch with SRL, and had recently got a gift decision against James Kinchen when Kinchen was the champ, so even if u want to call the draw a gift, atleast SRL hurt hearns, while Hearns was holding on with Kinchen for dear life excessively, and SRL was the champ and hearns was contender when he fought Kinchen.

SRL fought Kalule who was seen as an undefeated south paw that would give him problems, i will admit early he delayed the Hearns fight, SRL and Tommy briefly worked together in the Kronks gym, they were buddies, I think Leonard wanted more time before he fought Hearns, but eventually he fought him.

No. It was Hopkins that stopped that fight from happening by asking for too much money. Even the HBO execs who were critical of Roy, would admit that he tried to make that fight, but Hopkins was asking for too much money

Hopkins called out Toney after Toney beat Jirov, that fight was agreed to at a cacthweight of 190lbs, Toney even agreed to let Hopkins take that majority split and Hopkins still pulled out of it

      lol
Frank Warren offered Hopkins the biggest purse of his career 3m. Hopkins agreed that he demanded 6m which is why the fight didnt happen. Hopkins of course would go on to fight guys like Hakkar for around 400K instead

So instead of fighting Jones's conqueror he decides to beat a more dead jones instead? Great.

Not really. styles make fight, Dawson was all wrong for Hopkins which is why Hopkins wanted nothing to do with him

Winky was his WBC mandatory and instead of fighting him, he fought a green Taylor instead.

I gotta go with Lewis/Bowe. Seems like from what I've read from here, Lewis priced himself out of that match. Some say Bowe was reluctant and Rock Newman has said he didn't want anything to do with Lewis, but a disciplined, in shape Bowe, like the one that fought Holyfield, would've had a pretty good chance against Lennox Lewis. Not sure if he would've won, but he would've had a good chance. I'd pick Lewis to win a close one decision though, although he still could get caught like he did against McCall and Rahman.

Also, if this fight doesn't happen, which it doesn't look like it will at this point, I'd pick Mayweather/Pacquiao. Some say Manny won't take the Olympic Style drug Testing, while others say he agreed to the testing later on and that Floyd keeps coming up with excuses for the fight not to happen. So whose ducking who here? I'm leaning a little more towards Mayweather, since boxing already has drug testing and guys have been caught with it (Roy Jones Jr., Mike Tyson, James Toney) plus Floyd has a reputation of picking and choosing opponents in more recent years. But I guess that's more for NSB and some more time has to go by for this to be talked about here?

even though they ended up fighting tommy burns ducking jack johnson has to be up there. i mean the man flew around the world just to get away from jackson, jackson followed him and called him out over and over for a long time before burns was forced to fight him or admit he was afraid.

a modern version of that is maskaev and peter. peter must have been the #1 contender for around 2 years before he got his shot. he waited and waited, sued maskaev, lost, sued him again (i think), lost again, sued the damn WBC and FINALLY got his shot.

boxing match-ups are made by public demand at world title level with many of the fights mentioned so far never being in demand because one of the fighters was not in a position to make the fight happen

1)1988 Gold Medal match: Bowe lost to Lewis, and felt the officials didn't give him a fair break. A true champion tries to avenge any loss they had as a pro or amateur, and you won't make money as an excuse. In fact, a true champ would have gone as low as 50-50 to fight a nemesis.

2)The Encounter they had after Bowe-Holyfield-1: After Bowe beat holyfield they both bumped into each other as Lewis was broadcasting the fight, alot of rubbish and trash talk was exchanged- you will expect the fight to take place.

3)Legacy: Bowe was a champ in an era that didn't have many big names, Holyfield was his biggest win on his resume. You will expect him to have someone like Lewis in his resume, this is why despite a solid record- he was like 42-1 he won't make it into the IBHOF, and many thought he was losing both Golota fights until the low blows and DQ's. If Bowe had fought Lewis and beaten him, that extra win may have given him IBHOF consideration.

Bowe thought it was a premature stoppage when he lost to Lewis in Olympics

that was without a doubt the most bizarre standing 8 counts ive ever seen, plus headbutt calls, plus stoppage.
