I'm not pleased to be downgrading Quarry. I had much respect for him as a fighter and was lucky enough to talk to him personally a couple of times. He did come up with big performances (Foster, Shavers, Lyle) when he was mostly counted out. But these were other second tier level heavies of that era. In the fights that mattered the most, he always came up short. That's the sign of a perennial contender and not a champion.
The problem is that the second tier of that particular era is more like the first tier for practically any other era.

Michael Spinks was a very hard hitting LH. No basis or justification in equating his power with Middleweights. And Julian Jackson never fought above 160 so there is no evidence his power would carry up to heavyweight. Bob Foster may have been there hardest puncher ever at 175. Yet his punches didn't even faze heavyweights. Jackson wouldn't have been any different. He hit hard in his weight class. Until he actually knocks out some heavyweights, that pretty much it.

          Finally a reasonable response.

Jackson also wore tiny ass bag mitts and didn't even know how to punch with proper leverage.
