Off topic: Poet if you are still reading this thread could you post up some solid links about Schmeling?

I would if I had them. Unfortunately most of what I know about Schmeling comes from reading biographies over the years rather than from the internet.

That was one of the first Ali books I read and I came away from it thinking he was nothing more than a gullible buffoon

I would say that Hauser was pretty pro Ali. Not to mention documentaries like when we were kings and Michael Man's Ali are are quite pro Ali as well
When I read the relevant chapters then Ill post them up. Howard Bingham and even Bundini brown called parts of it lies as well

Why didn't those writers interview Betty Shabazz, Eddie Futch and Aisha Ali for example?



I know the suffering he caused to Frazier and others and I can see how his less than savory actions are played down in a lot of those books. When those book start to cover Ali romance with the Klan maybe Ill paying more attention to them. You have to cover the negative as well as the positive after all to get a complete picture of any man

Moore had no reason to lie and judging from how Ali treated Dundee at times I'm inclined to lean towards Moore.

Actually Moore does have a reason to lie. He was fired.



You can "say" what ever you want about Hauser just like I can say what I want about Kram who believes that somehow Frazier supported Ali right to box again for Ali's benefit. Millions of dollars or the fact that Frazier could never be recognized as champ until he beat Ali had nothing to do with that, right? What does this have to do with the laws against Ali in the 50's 60's? Whether the Gold Medal story was true or not(I don't think it is) it doesn't change what Ali faced in the South growing up. You have to be completely ignorant to think Ali or anybody else is lying about that.



How exactly did Ali "treat" Dundee? Ali never fired Dundee but he did fire Moore. Moore's job was to train Ali. Not to have him "doing jobs." The trainer works for the boxer. Ali wasn't working for Moore. I don't know if you realize that or not.



Oh and I'm still waiting for you to show where Ali agreed with Malcolm X sentiments about the Kennedy Assassination.

He was a full blown member of the Nation of Islam when that book was written. So what he says while joined to a loony religious space worshiping cult is to believed, but everything he said before that is to be disbelieved?

I bet these two chapters in Ali's life were conveniently left out of the greatest

In response to your predictible links, Frazier once called Ali a "half breed." Would never call him by his legal name. Also, Malcolm X, Floyd Patterson, and some of your other heroes said many things that you conveniently leave out of your post.

Even the Nation distanced itself from Malcolm for saying that, it was what led to Malcolm X's suspension from the Nation of Islam. Malcolm said that stuff off his own back, Not because he was a member of the Nation of Islam.

And BTW, It was Malcolm X who publicly called King, Thurgood Marshall, and Jackie Robinson "Uncle Toms." It was Malcolm X who claimed "the chickens have come home to roost" immediately after knowing Kennedy had been assassinated. Not Ali

As dedicated follower of the Nation of Islam he would of felt the exact same way. He even went a step further and called for the death of Malcolm X, Leon 4xAmeer and mixed race couples. He even placed Fraziers life in danger when he tried to portray him to the world as a race traitor

Are you really? Because this is the initial "civil rights" award that had you pissed off:

This particular group gave the exact same award(Beacon of Change) to Billie Jean King who had phuck all to do with the civil rights "movement" your talking about. Doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason here, but lets look at the purpose of this MLB Civil Rights game:

Ali is one of the most popular black athletes ever, so giving him the award naturally serves the ultimate purpose of the game. : generating interest amongst blacks.

So I ask, how is he not deserving of this particular award?

I've been scanning through this section for years and decided to sign up. I'm no fan of Ali mainly because I'm a Quarry guy. And under different circumstances Quarry could have beaten Ali in both of their fights. Quarry had a beautiful left hook and never got to use it in fight one. In fight 2 his brothers loss to Foster took everything out of him. I think this thread was unnecessary and the guy who started it went too far. Ali is an invalid today and couldn't hurt a fly. I blame the moderator for allowing it to get to this point. He's busy banning people from talking about that sissy Englishman Lennox Lewis. And he gets support from Minions like Scott9945 who has been a follower for years. I go way back seeing these guys on the Internet so I know what I'm talking about.
