I think that Vitali would do very well against any champion from the past and be in there with a shot to win against anybody. I would think that one of the fighters that would cause the ukrainian the most trouble is Jack Dempsey. Not many fighters in history can put punches together like he could.

A thing is that in this match-up we are not dealing with a prime Vitali. On the other hand we have a prime Dempsey who was a beast. Hungry as no fighter is today. If he lost he knew he had nothing. A predator looking to kill.

If the fight was made under old-school rules with smaller gloves and no standing 8 count I feel certain that Dempsey pulls it off. Vitali has a better chance in the modern world, but my pick is ultimately Dempsey.
no standing 8 count? Uhh...Dempsey has been knocked out of the ring. Vitali has never been down. Vitali when he fought Peter probably looked the best he ever did. so good that the accusation was always that he roided up for those 4 years while he was retired.

I dont care how badly he wanted it. You can tell a guy he needs to hit a Rivera pitch in baseball or youll kill his family, doesnt mean he will hit it.

No standing 8 count and Vitali just murders him in the ring. You allow them to wrestle and the sambo trained vitali merely discards of Dempsey like hes throwing out the trash.

let's get real here. You're talking about an out of shape heavy drinking and partying Sam Peter who never was very good to begin with. Vitali dominated in quite an impressive performance, but it was clear to most (maybe not to you) that Vitali was rusty and tired at the end.

You can have the opinion that Vitali murders Dempsey but please do not say that Vitali was looking the best he ever looked against Peter. You make yourself look bad.

Vitalis stamina is made for throwing a ton of punches, much more than Dempsey ever threw a round. I watch Dempsey and I dont see any great combos or defense I see a guy who would never get past either Klitschko's jab and if he did would be met with a ferocious right like none he ever tasted before.
Here is a link showing something you aint ever seen before, its Jack Dempsey throwing great combos..

Watch Dempseys Left-Hooks every single one he throws crashes onto the chin of Willard because tall fighters cannot see a Left-Hook from a small fighter when there arms are up for defence or if they are throwing jabs.. Willard is every bit as good as the Klitschko brothers yet Dempsey is on a totally different level

Think this shows best why Dempsey could be dangerous, even an older Dempsey. That's a pin-point accurate combination and it's a wonder Tunney got up.

Uhh I can list countless articles and people paid for their opinions who say Vitali looked great. Youre just some dude on a forum.

"On Saturday night, Vitali Klitschko didn’t just beat Sam Peter to regain his WBC heavyweight title, he totally outclassed him. Not since Joe Calzaghe’s clinic against Jeff Lacy in 2006 have I seen such a sustained and one-sided beating in a contest between two elite level fighters. Such was the constancy of Vitali’s stiff jab and occasional right hand landing on Peter’s increasingly swollen face that after 8 rounds of it – all of which were won by Vitali, in spite of one judge’s charity – the Nigerian Nightmare quit on his stool."

"Vitali’s energy was still admirably high. He was so relaxed as he pecked away. At 37, this was a far better showing than even he could’ve hoped for. After the bout, he was barely breathing heavy as he spoke to Showtime's Steve Farhood, and expressed his joy."

youre such a joke, how many times do I have to own you.

I don't know about ESB's Mark Gregory being a foremost authority on boxing and I doubt he gets paid for his opinions. BattlingNelson has been watching boxing since Ali-Foreman and had an extensive collection of fights. I'd say that his opinion carries a lot of weight.

Would you agree with this too, from the same writer?
To my mind you may as well give Brixton’s Danny Williams a shot at Wlad in December based on his upset KO of Mike Tyson back in 2004. Williams has as many losses as Rahman since that victory, and his victories have been over a comparable level of competition. At least Williams managed to win his last fight. The fact that the idea of the Brixton Bomber getting into a championship ring sounds so ridiculous is testament to just how undeserved The Rock’s latest title shot is.

Wladimir Klitschko should be more than a little embarrassed for agreeing to take this fight. The fact is that he is chosen to fight someone who is nothing more than a name, and it is a name that was made the better part of decade ago on the basis of one thunderous right hand. The fact that Rahman was destroyed in the rematch seems to matter little when you look at the career he has carved out for himself since. Rarely has a fighter been given so many unearned chances to capture one of the most prestigious titles in sport. Of course it is short notice to find a credible opponent, but why not give an up and comer a chance? Why not fight the guy who was originally awarded a TKO win over him just a few months ago, James Toney?

"Klitschko, 37, picked off punches with ease with his hands down, leaning back, throughout the opening rounds. From there it simply grew worse for the Nigerian.

Klitschko, who conceded seven pounds to his opponent, was fighting for the first time since a successful title defence against Danny Williams in Las Vegas in 2004.

He retired the following year due to a knee injury but looked in fine shape against Peter."

"And then he went out this past Saturday night and gave Peter one of the most lopsided thrashings you will ever see in boxing."

I mean how many different boxing analysts do I need to post from. Find me one that says Vitali was tired and looked bad. Everyone who wrote after the fight listed it as a lopsided beatdown with Vitali looking freat.

I also said that Vitali looked very good. I'm just questioning the quality of Samuel Peter. That the writer calls Peter an elite fighter speaks volumes on the state of todays heavyweight division outside the klits.

But maybe you hold Peter in high regard in a historical sense? I don't.

Besides I found Wlad's performance against Peter much better than Vitali's. Not only was he barely touched, but the in-shape Peter actually tried to win for about 3 rounds and not a mere 30 seconds or so as it was for the fat partygoer against Vitali.

I never said Vitali looked bad. At least have the courtesy to quote me correct.
