So basically you won't take a guy seriously because he's a minimumweight. That makes your opinion totally worthless.

All of the above. I disagree he was more technically sound. Whitaker had a different style but was a master of it. In terms of resume, it's not really close. Whitaker fought everyone at Lightweight, moved up and beat the best at Welter, beat 1A at Jr. Middle when Vasquez was hot. He fought in better divisions, against better comp and had lengthy reigns in two of them.
I will agree that Whitaker fought better composition, but Lopez was, at the least, equally as skilled as Whitaker. There were no weaknesses in his style. And as for competition, Alvarez was a heck of a good fighter, as was Ratanapol Sor Vorapin. Regardless, Lopez took on everyone in front of him, and the fact that he's not even being mentioned in this thread is ridiculous.

No your the one trying to act like this minimumweight is even on this ATG legend's level. That's ridiculous. It doesn't take a scientist to realize the most technically sound skilled fighters usually come from the lower weight classes but to compare him to Whitaker is insane. Whitakers resume *****s all over Lopez's resume. Quit ur hatin' and get a better day job.

Actually, I wouldn't dare compare Whitaker's skills to Lopez's skill level. Anyone who does not recognize that Lopez is perhaps the most technically perfect fighter of all time has simply never bothered to watch him fight.

having this so called "great technical skills" is not enough to catapult a fighter into ATG status... actually it is rather meaningless...

here you have pea undefeated @ 135 like finito was @ minimum weight... pea is among the greatest ever to do it @ 135, considering the deep level of talent that weight class has had historically...

then you have pea's weight scaling man... finito stayed in his comfort zone while pea took risks to get out of his to compete with the bigger guys there...

sumbu kalambay was arguably "better skilled" than monzon but who on earth would rate kalambay higher than monzon in a P4P ATG list?

Thank you. The title doesn't say "who is the most technically sound skilled fighter in the past 30 years" it's the greatest boxer period. This fool knows his boxing so he of all people should know you could be the most skilled fighter in the world but that don't mean ***** if you haven't proved yourself against the best in the world. Look at Floyd he's becoming a joke more and more by the day and he's easily the most skilled fighter in the world right now. Im not saying Lopez isn't proven because he did dominate his one division but Whitaker took it to hall of a fame fighters on a daily basis, so Lopez shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as far as greatness is concerned.

Lopez defended his title more times than Larry Holmes... and more times than Ali. He then moved up to Light Flyweight to claim the title there. As noted, Lopez completely cleaned up his division, taking on all challengers to the minimumweight crown.

Neither fighter ducked anyone, and both accomplished incredible things in the last 30 years. One moved from weight division to weight division, the other cleaned up his own division (by the way, Joe Louis has never been given any grief for not moving down in weight to fight against light heavyweights, where the competition was arguably tougher in his day). There is no reason why Lopez should be as casually dismissed as he is in this thread. It makes me wonder if anyone has actually seen him fight.

lewis fought everyone & beat them...never got his chance at bowe but took it out on golota...he's my choice...the heavyweight division was at its best in late 80's & in the 90's...so many good fights happened during this span & all contenders fought each other to get in line for the big 3(holyfield,tyson,lennox).
