All of the above. I disagree he was more technically sound. Whitaker had a different style but was a master of it. In terms of resume, it's not really close. Whitaker fought everyone at Lightweight, moved up and beat the best at Welter, beat 1A at Jr. Middle when Vasquez was hot. He fought in better divisions, against better comp and had lengthy reigns in two of them.

Those are just a magazine set of ratings, you could put up boxing illustrated magazine ratings and they would be completely different.. its governing body ratings which count

Which governing body does pound for pound ratings? On second thought...they might find a way to charge fees for that too. Nevermind.

I would say Whitaker, the quality of the competition he beat is really amazing if you look into it.

Out of so many excellent fighters, I think its very close though. Really just depends on your criteria, so I dont have much problem with people choosing Pacquiao(for weight jumping), Hopkins(for longevity), RJJ(for his dominance), Chavez(for his huge comilation of quality wins) or other very talented fighters that have been around these last 30 years.

btw, when you say 'last 30 years', I consider that meaning 'this fighters entire career took place during the last 30 years'. So I wouldnt really consider Leonard or Hearns in this last 30 years catagory.
but...thats up for debate too. lol.

Maybe a little less than half; all the unification fights and title wins, Sorjaturong, etc. Have a bunch in the collection. GREAT fighter. Just not as great as Pernell and it's not really close. Two fighters can be genuinely great with one having things are their side which make them greater. Fighting in better divisions, moving up to take on bad asses, and dominating better career comp usually wins.

I'd go with Pernell Whitaker follwed by RJJ.
Pac must have a shot and even Mayweather depending on if they fight if it lives up to its billing and who wins but I don't really like to appraise fighters historical standing while they are current.

                    Totally forgot about Leonard!
Whitaker followed by SRL narrowly squeeking past RJJ

Are you freakin kidding me? My dog weighs more then that dude. No it's not even close. Totally different weight divisions and Whitakers took on easily the toughest guys. Thats why you never hear of Lopez.
