Roy Jones vs James Toney: How could Toney of won this?

Jones definently hit harder than Toney, speed often equals power. If Jones hit you and you saw it coming it often still didn't matter.
I'm just going to say Jones was simply that good back then. A prime Roy is almost impossible to beat. I'd give Hagler a shot at MW, I gave B-hop a shot too but he couldn't do it even though he put up a good fight. Haglers chance would be if he pressured Roy like a mad dog like he did against Hearns. Only thing is Roy was a quicker and more elusive fighter than Hearns although he probably didn't pack the same punch even at MW.

Hagler struggled with guys who had good foot speed, there was a Afro-Mexican guy he fought after his first Antefurmo fight who gave Hagler a hard time.
I think the guy who has the best chance of beating Jones might be a focused Micheal Nunn

Toney being hooked up to an I.V. before the fight would tell you that he's in bad shape...as it happened against Jones. I'm not questioning Jones' win but the fight was dull. Toney's body was softer than ever before. He was in bad shape.
I still don't know why Jones wouldn't asnwer any questions about a rematch with Toney though.

toney would have to fight roy at a higher weight, much higher, i don't see him having much of a chance at 168, because of the speed and workrate advantange that jones has. the winnable fight for toney is to fight roy at 190+ lbs after he fought john ruiz, the cruiserweight / hw toney has the best chance because roy will be slower and less active from bulking up and can be caught clean in counters. if both weighed 200 lbs the speed difference between roy and james isn't as much

It was Jones's speed more than his workrate that was giving Toney trouble
No, they were talking about him moving up to light heavyweight

Its Toney's job to keep in shape, not Jones and his team

is he can last the distance against a fighter whom was not meant to lose against him , that's all.

will not be prepared for the second.
Originally posted by -IronMike- View PostEven if Toney wasn't drained, he would of lost the same way.
Originally posted by -IronMike- View PostAlso the thing you seem to forget is that even Kallen said that Toney was confident before the fight, It was only after the fight that he started with all of his excuses. He was in terrible shape against Tiberi, I don't remember him complaining after he got his gift win

At lhw Jones was only interested in defending against his mandatoires and picking up belts. Toney would of had to get a belt or better yet work his way up to be Jones no 1 contender.
