It’s always about context. None of the, according to you, top 15 heavyweights, was close to their prime. The names look great though.

The ko losses to clubfighters looks awful though. No context can erase those blemishes.

Mostly because his wife didn't want him fighting again, but it's not as though he retired just to duck a rematch with Vitali and then come back later. That makes sense. Wlad lost his title in 2003 and that's the year Lewis defeated Vitali and retired from the sport.

LMAO reading this thread. I used to consider both Carlos and Cane two of my forum pals back in the day, and I got along great with Sonnyboy the back half of his time here after constantly fighting with him the first half

Lewis is a fighter where one has to really look carefully to evaluate his resume. The biggest error people make is ignoring context: Lets take three names: Grant, Tua and Briggs. Easy to dismiss them but if one looks carefully... When Grant fought lewis he was considered a nightmare. Lewis actually avoided a fight with Ruiz who was not considered a threat at all to fight Grant who the fans wanted to see against Lewis. Ask yourself how Grant would do today, considering the skill levels we see... And Tua? also considered a live dog. But of these three Briggs is the one that is most deceptive. When Lewis fought Briggs he was considered a real young lion. He was beating people and not what he later became lol.

Lewis' resume is littered with such names: Golota, Ruddock... two fighters considered really dangerous at the time... And of course fellow ATG level guys like Holyfield... And wraps it up opening up Vitalie!

Lewis never ducked opponents, of course Queensbury will prattle about "Bowe and Ruiz" lol... Was Lewis great? Yes. I would argue his resume was one of the strongest when we consider the average level of his competition. he never fought an fellow ATG at prime, but how many heavyweights got that option?
