I meant that Lewis acted with integrity... Sorry if that did not come across. I don't think lewis ducked Bowe either. Did I say he ducked Bowe? If I did my bad.

lewis always stated that he wanted to be the best heavyweight on the planet, and he fought a lot of young, strong able fighters that people tend to forget about. I used brigs as an example... People see brigs now and forget he was a live dog back in the day... so was Grant until Lewis exposed him.

      - - Used me as an example of claiming Lewie ducked Bowe when in fact you can find no history of that in my entire history on the internet.

He did duck John Ruiz when DKing offered him a couple mil forfeit his WBA. Same deal with IBF against tricky lefty Byrd. Basically he in conjunction with DKing delayed the ascension of the Ks to the top of the championships, net result Lewie was bad for boxing that rankles he and his fans.

I don't know... Look today at how much "delay" there is and it makes any past allegations of "duck duck goose" hard to stack up. IF lewis ducked Ruiz... (a big if) It was not because he thought Ruiz would beat him. There were few around at that time who thought Ruiz was much compared to Grant. Byrd is a more believable "duck" scenario because Byrd made a lot of guys look bad and had tremendous skills. But lewis had a personality that seemed to welcome adversity... The guy went right back to rematch both times he was bitten by the curse of the British heavy. To be fair, compare this to when Vlad was Ko'ed by Sanders. He did not want a rematch.

          - - Lewie so adversely aghast at having to defend his unified titles that he ditched them, so no rematch was ever needed.

Lewie thought he was playing boxing, but instead DKing played him to perfection to make bukoos of illicit $$$ with his two titles.

Don King was a true "super villian." Honestly? people think Arum is smart... A nice ***ish boy from Brooklyn who survived law school....whoopie Dew, Meanwhile King? Survived being in the crosshairs of two of the most dangerous, viscious mob leaders in history... in a city where the preferred method of dealing with an adversary was to blow half the freakin block up where target MIGHT be located... Then beats homicide charges, all the while maintaining his Hustle (Numbers), then becomes a real crook in the boxing world. No comparison! King is evil but one of the smartest evil geniuses.

Compare that to Lewis with his nice penchant for a game of Chess... Yeah King probably manipulated the situation lol. Your favorite (Tubby Lars) actually managed to escape King's net lol.

Have you read "Don King: His life and crimes"? Great book that is a tell all of his life, much the way you just put but with a lot more detail. Excellent read.

That is a great read, and in fact, a cursory read of crime in Cleveland at the time is also very informative.

Lewis calling him "chicken bone" on HBO was comedy gold.

                  • To those who say Lewis didn't have a great resume all I can say you would have a tough time coming up with five heavyweights who had better in terms of # of title fights and title record, and quality of opposition fought. That is why I rate him highly.

Did he make good choices of where and when to fight his most famous opponents? Absolutely he did. And he was lucky to get the re-matches as well. You can punch holes into any heavyweights resume. What hurts Lewis is he was knocked out early twice by one punch early in the fights. Something that did not happen to other top the heavyweights with a resume if high standing. There are other things to nit pick at like he said he's give Vitali a re-match but did not when the WBC forced it on him, not doing well or fighting south paws, and dropping belts to Byrd / Ruiz rather then fighting them.

                      - - That's it along with Field, Big Dummy, and Lewie not being around in Tyson's heyday sorta takes much of the luster off their records. Sorta like the best name on JJohnson record is 6 years retired Jeffries while he was actively ducking fights with Langford, Jeannette, and toward the end of his title run vs Wills.

In defense, JJ can be said to have taken the biggest names like Ketchel or Obrien and then Jeff for huge $$$, so he could afford to fight the rest of the fodder he scheduled.
