But if you must do so, at the very least rate him against a 67-5-1 Charles, not a 93-25-1 Charles. Pac right now is where Charles was at that point. And at that point Charles was considered possibly the GOAT. Hype is relative to timing people.
Good point as far as Charles is concerned his last 5 years were a horror.
Might be worth re visiting this if Pac fights/beats PBF.
Incidently very pleasing to see you in the green *****, just noticed it.
Not before time and pleasing for the contribution you make, even if we don't always agree I always enjoy your posts.

now ppl are gonna say im jealous of pac just bcuz i have common sense. the truth is no currently active fighter ranks as high as charles. hopkins, mosley, pac and floyd have a chance to get there, but i doubt any of them will. it will take them 3-4 more big wins for there to even be reason to discuss it. as of now its laughable.
Amen to that! Charles fought more than double the number of fights Pacman has. Many of his fights were at heavyweight although he was a natural light heavyweight ideally suited to fighting at 175lbs.

It would seem Pac best wins are just as good as Charles's. Yet Pac has moved up in weight like very few have.
Then you really need to do your homework. Charles fought in the golden age of boxing. There were far more fighters back then and far more fights. It was common for a fighters career then to exceed 100 fights. Many fighters were plying their trade once a month. The game was on a whole different level back then. There isn't a fighter active today who is fit to lace Charles gloves.

He is great but probably below Pac.
Let's see how many losses Pacman racks up after he's fought 119 times... Truth be told it is unlikely that he will ever approach that number of fights since he's fighting nowhere near as frequently as Charles did. Charles was active for 19 years between 1940 and 1959, although arguable he was pretty much washed up as early as 1952 and certainly after he fought Marciano in 1954. He fought once every 2 months on average throughout that entire period.

It should also be pointed out that Ezzard died of ALS, and may already have been slightly affected by this disease towards the end of his career.

The KO rates are much higher today because very few fighters exhibit decent defensive skills. Today's fights are closer to demolition derbies that boxing matches. Boxing is supposed to be about not getting hit whilst delivering maximum damage. These days it's more like a war of attrition on brain cells.

For those here who usually don't go posting on NSB. This is what it is like these days:

A bunch of people, who know nothing about the sport, unless it's somehow related to Pacquiao, making irrelevant points but taking up a lot of space.

There is no one fighting today who I would rank higher than Ezzard.

With ease Ezzard Charles, his resume alone destroys Pacquaio and can't see how people are actually voting for him, Charles is also arguably the greatest LHW of all time.

People really need to do their homework instead of seeing Pac's name and being like

"OMG PAC IS TEH BEST EVAR HE OBV BEAT THIS FOOL !!"

They should just stay in NSB if they're not willing to do a little bit of research.

i must be a nerd... Pacquiao is the only fighter in boxing history to win world titles in 7 weight divisions beating P4P ranked fighters on most occasions in, Barrera, Morales, Delahoya, Hatton, Cotto, Marquez, moving from 105lbs up to 147lbs which is unpresidented, Pacquiao has been P4P No1 longer than any fighter since those rankings was established, he has been voted RMFOTY on 3 occasions and is without doubt the worlds most exciting and best fighter..
Ezzard Charles was a phenominal fighter who many believe to be the greatest Light-Heavyweight in history although he never actually won that title, Charles like Pacquiao fought and beat the very best competition of his era, he moved to heavyweight and beat the best in that division and became the champion before losing to 37yr old Jersey Joe Walcott then twice more in title fights to Rocky Marciano... who was the greatest P4P - Pacquiao

These days, Charles would have been at least a 5 weight belt holder, possibly 6 if he could get down to 154 which as a young man wouldn't have been too difficult.. Close, but Charles wins this poll (for now....)

Yeah... I think you may have discounted the BMR effect which had a big influence on Charles Career.

                      what is BMR effect?

what is forgotten in this Topic is tha Pacquiao is only one fight (mayweather) off becoming the greatest fighter in the history of professional boxing.. because should Pacquiao fight and beat Mayweather this year and then retire, i have no doubt at all that he will become known as the greatest ever and that includes Robinson, Ali, Armstrong, Pepp, Charles and any other fighter you care to mention.
