His .356 career batting average is the fourth-highest in MLB history.[1] Jackson is often remembered for his association with the Black Sox Scandal, in which eight members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox participated in a conspiracy to fix the World Series. As a result, Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis permanently banned Jackson and the other seven players from professional baseball after the 1920 season.

What time of day do you start drinking?
    - - Jackson had the highest batting average of the series and a flawless fielding average.

Moreover, all the public knew the series was fixed. A legal trial was held, but since the evidence included participation by the Chicago owners, the evidence suddenly disappeared so no trial was ever heard.

Crooked justice then and ongoing today...DUH!!!

I believe he's questioning you trying to say Jackson refused to partake in the throwing of the 1919 series when in fact he confessed to accepting money. You really are dense!!

Others (not already mentioned) who won a world title on their 5th try:

        Jose Lopez
        Luis Alberto Lazarte
        Rodel Mayol
        German Torres
        Marcos Villasana
        Toshiaki Nishioka
        Sam**** Seeta

Edit: LOL Seeta's full name is apparently not "clean" enough to be allowed here!

            - - Didn't accept the substantial $$$. Gangsters visited his hotel room and then left after throwing the $$$ on the bed. Joe put it in the bank for safekeeping in case they came back.

Joe and his wife were in business for themselves and were quite wealthy independent of baseball. He weren't some bar fly like U passing out U Mickeys so as to fleece U customers.

Not the way I have heard it.

Here Eight Men Out almost gets it right.

The money came from two (susposed) sources. Sleepy Bill Burns (via Abe Attel) and Sport Sullivan (via Monk Eastman). Today we believe both were actually working for Aronald Rothstein.

The players were promised 100K and 80K.

Sport Sullivan would eventually hand over 10K of the promised money and Sleepy Bill Burns only 20K.

The first 10K went to Eddie Cicotte for he was the key player.

Gandal took the second 10K for himself.

The third 10K was spilt between five players at $2,000 each. Jackson was one of those five. The money was delivered to Jackson by Gandal.

Only Gandal and Cicotte ever talked directly to the gangsters.

Bucky Weaver took no money, and the utility infielder who's name I have forgotten (who wasn't a starter) got stiffed.

Jackson took money. It's really that simple.

The only one who was clean was Weaver.

Jackson took money. What he did after that means nothing. Whether he double crossed the gangsters (and played well) or was truly a cross player, doesn't matter. He went cross and took money.
