Ask him who wrote those anonymous articles…that should be interesting.
If you're asking about the individual authors of every newspaper article I've shared, well I've provided the name of the paper and the exact date. I thought that's all you needed because here you are bigging up your man for posting just the name of the paper and the date, No Author
So what are you really asking for, hmmmmmmm?
........
You've done the same yourself and if I cared enough I'd search for the times you've done this just to embarrass you more, but I'd rather spend the rest of my night with my lady.

Most of my sources are the ones I mentioned. Moyle, Pollack, Ayc@ck, Heller, Menke, and quite a few more. Early to rise and late to bed just to argue with strangers across the pond. Ha!
Originally posted by GhostofDempsey View PostIn 1914 the NSC offered Johnson £6000, which was approximately $30,000, to face Langford. Johnson called the offer "ridiculous" and rejected it. (Townsville Daily Bulletin, 17th Feb 1914)
French promoter Theodore Vienne says he offered Johnson $25,000 and then $30,000 to meet Langford in Paris. Johnson turned him down. Johnson's continual refusal to meet the best challengers led to the French Boxing Federation stripping him of the title (Winnipeg Tribune, 27th Dec 1913)
McIntosh made a series of offers to Johnson: $60,000 to fight Langford, McVey and Jeannette in Australia (NYT 9 Dec 1912); $30,000 for an unnamed opponent that the author presumes to be Langford (NYT 26th June 1912); $40,000 for Langford and McVey with $5000 expenses and a $10,000 forfeit (NYT 9th August 1912). Then there was a reported $100,000 to fight Langford and Jeannette in Australia and Flynn in Paris (NYT Oct 12 1912)

Who was your source that Smith heavily dropped Johnson to the canvas?
Which one stated McVey was competitive with Johnson?
Which source says Johnson struggled with Battling Jim Johnson?
I'm early to rise to get my dog out for his exercise before it gets too hot .
As I'm retired, I get up and go to bed whenever I feel like it. It's probably the only advantage of being old I can think of!travestyny likes this.

Still waiting for you to show any proof of that Frazee offer being accepted by all parties and killed by the commission Mr. "it's buried in the archives."
Those Dempsey stall tactics worked too well. Dempsey finally lost, and Wills right after. You couldn't even get that right in the other thread. That shows who posts on emotion and who posts with good reason, kickball.

Originally posted by GhostofDempsey View PostA cabled article printed in the Evening World (New York City) stated:
Jack Johnson barely missed losing his heavyweight championship in a ten round bout here last night. Jeffries' conqueror met Battling Jim Johnson, a big negro from Memphis Tenn. and barely lasted through the final round. He was tottering and groggy at the finish. A few rounds more and he might have been knocked out. . . . In the last minute of the fight the Memphis negro rushed Johnson to the ropes and in a mixup both went to the floor, with Jack's arm around Jim's waist. Both were on their feet quickly but Jack looked exhausted just as the final bell rang. It is possible that Jack hurt his arm in the fall to the floor. . . . In the seventh round the Memphis man succeeded in breaking down Jack's guard and three times after landing on the body grazed Jack's jaw with terrific uppercuts.
Oh, please ask him who the author is!!!
Matter of fact, he should just show the entire article. I have a feeing he's going to find a couple of things he doesn't like
Don't duck it, GhostofDumpsey. Who's that author!!!! Let's see if you can pass your own test!Last edited by travestyny; 07-12-2025, 02:28 PM.
