It may or may not be Marciano's era, but it's the one who seems to have a lack of quality bigger men in the top 10 and dominated by sub-200 pounders. You mentioned Johnson's era. Lots of little guys, but Johnson himself was a large man, and in the end of his title reign he was sent off by a giant in Willard.
You said 20th century so I replied. Johnson was under 195 lbs for most of his matches before 1909. At 185-187 Marciano was within range of Dempsey. Joe Louis fought under 200 pounds too. Rocky was too small for his time.
Johnson was not a large man! He was 6 feet and 1/2 inches tall with a 74" reach.
Johnosn fought four small men at heavyweight.
Choynski who is under 175 pounds who KO'd him.
O'Brien who was 162.5 and according to some primary sources got the better of him in what they call at Box Rec a " news draw. "
Ketchel a middleweight who floored him, but was out matched.
And of course the 5'7" 168 pound Tommy Bruns.
Next to them, he was a giant!
He was also pretty much TKO'd in an exhibition match in 1909 vs. Gun Boat Smith who was about 180 pounds.
Point being all the above men we lighter than Rocky.

Johnson fought men who were around 200lbs or over 23 times, name another heavyweight of his era who came close to that?
Until Louis, Johnson's average weight for a title challenger was the highest.
ps O Brien did not weigh in for his fight with Johnson, and you have been told this dozens of times.
Estimates suggest Johnson and Choynski were nearly the same weight, which you have also been told several times.
But,pray continue, proving my points about your hatred of certain fighters.Last edited by Bronson66; 04-17-2025, 05:17 PM.

Wins over Hulk Hogan, Apollo Creed, Tommy Morrison, Ivan Drago, and Mr. T make him the best ever, oh, okay, that's Rocky Balboa, but he and Marciano are the joint best ever. All this talk of Holyfield's resume, he lost 75% of the hard fights he had, and on those terms, Dereck Chisora's resume is far better if losses count as greatness. beating Mike Tyson, a man who lost every hard fight he had, except for the shell of Larry Holmes and middleweight Spinks, is not a huge deal and Jake Paul beat him easily.
Holyfield was so protected as well, in his prime he was getting battered by Sherman the Tank Williams, a journeyman, and instead of it being a TKO win for Tank, the ref went over to Holyfield's corner and asked him if he wanted to stop the fight so he could have a gift NC, it's on YouTube for all to see. Absolute disgrace for "Hello, Evan here", to be able to call the shots like that and rob Sherman the Tank of a victory. Holyfield did not even scare Will Smith, in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air he called the Banks household and Will said that "he knew by the sound of his voice that he could take him", or something along those lines, Holyfield turned up acting tough but no fight took place so we'll never know if Holyfield could have beaten a, at the time, green Will Smith. I think Marciano thought the young Patterson might bw too difficult at his age.
Then he saw Johansson put Patterson down and thought about a comeback.
In the beginning Marciano didn't know Floyd had a 'dimple in his chin' until Johansson.
