Hagler fans know he was slowing down at age 32! And he retired from boxing at age 32! The passion and the money were not enough. He was in for a beating in the future so he quit. I bet he tried a comeback in the gym and was not his young self.
Why did Hagler avoid the Leonard rematch?

His final fight was with Srl a top 10 all time great still in his prime which he lost by split decision.
I'd say retirement shouldn't be an issue

Leonard was in-active and hand some ring rust. And Hagler was 32.Comment

There was talk of a rematch, but it never happened. Seth Abraham, who was president of HBO Sports, said, "Marvin made it very clear — he thought he was jobbed and he was never going to fight again. And he never did. There were conversations, but they were never at the level of negotiations. If people say Marvin wanted the fight and Ray didn’t, that’s revisionist historyComment

Srl was out of the ring doing what?
Commentating Hagler fights and watching him decline.
He came out of hiding when he saw Hagler leave it all in the ring against Mugabi.
Ok you don't have a clue

Hagler had more experience he was pushing 70 fights still fighting the absolute four kings of the sport

Ray was off his **** most of the time since Hearns took his eye.
Hagler had slowed a bit but not nearly as much as a lot of fanboys say.
He was fighting a natural welter who had one awful fight in 5 years.
Yet the Hagler victim narrative has grown sronger and stronger over the years, in no small part due to Marvin himself endlessly moaning he was robbed.
Ray won fair and square - 115-113 on my card.

I'm not arguing Ray didn't win, but Hagler had a lot more wear and tear on him. He wasn't shot, but I don't believe he was the same fighter he was from '81 to '83. I think the Hearns and Mugabi fights took a bit out of him as well as having nearly twice as many professional fights.
The Hearns fight took a hell of a lot out of him (broken hand or not) and John left his entire career in the ring in that war.
But Leonard was slightly slower too although less ringworn.
Discounting Tommy I think the Sibson fight was a total masterclass.
Tony could really fight yet Marvin dismissed him easily.
I do think it's a shame there were no other truly great middles for him to fight.
Roberto had Ken (top 10 ATG lightweight for me).
Ray had Tommy (the best welters ever to do it apart from Robinson).
Imagine if Monzon had come around at the same time as Hagler!
A pick-em if ever there was one.
The fact that Carlos was a textbook psychopath might just swing it his way!

I don't disagree, I just think he was not as decrepid as some say.

- - There was a 4 yr gap where Marv was still learning the ropes with a couple of losses. By the time he won a belt, Monzon had been retired at least 5 years.
