The fight either had to be an international event, but at neutral location, e.g. Great Britain, Germany.

Or the fight had to be in Vegas (not promoted by HBO). Vegas can take on an international vibe and the scoring is scrutinize more so than at other venues. Vegas was a reasonable risk for DM but not if HBO was involved.

But anyway, there was too much reason for both to not trust. I believe Jones was bound to HBO at some level anyhow.
I don't disagree with you. The Ukraine certainly would have been a more neutral site than Germany though. Michalszewski fought all but two of his fights in Germany. I just read an article poster on CBZ years ago where Jones said he'd fight in Germany for 12 million. I think he outpriced himself at that time, but i think that is the only way he was going to take a chance of being robbed. Dariusz was the lineal champion, but Jones was still the attraction. It's a shame neither would budge.

I wasn't aware of that. Thank you.

12 million? Not sure if that was reasonable or not.

Occam's Razer: They were both making money; no common interested party involved. Wasn't going to happen.

Where's Don King when you need him?

A lot of people thought Loma got robbed against Haney.

        It's boxing.

The great ones don't let that stop them.

I never heard about the 12m. Sounds plausible that Jones would out price himself though.

Yes. A shame for us fans that the fight never happened.

Isn't that a two way street though?

              - - If Roy wanted an all time legacy bout to match his all time dominance in boxing, they fight after the contract is signed with all the terms agreed upon in Ukraine which is where the larger weight classes tend to dominate in boxing starting in those days.

Big George fought all his first career title bouts in foreign countries for the reason that's where the $$$ is...DUH...

Where do you get the Ukraine from? Sounds like another thing you're just making up. And as I said to The Devil, it's a two way street.

                  - - Dariusz was lumped in with all those Ukrainian fighters who were making fortunes in Germany is what I meant to say, ie the $$$ was there in excess of what Roy could command in the US.

You truly are mentally challenged. You said Roy turned down a record purse in the Ukraine. You were wrong again......as usual.

                    • Roy Jones is an all-time great according to almost any boxing historian you care to mention.

The same can’t be said for Dariusz Michalczewski. What CAN be said for him is that he was incredibly fortunate to be active in the same era…but sadly he never had the stones to measure himself against all-time. That’s a blemish that echos through eternity I would think.
