Most fighters come from rough and scrappy beginnings. Often times on the wrong side of the law. Many of them suffer their growing pains, mature and go on to be model citizens and sometimes giving back to their community. Corbett, Dempsey, Moore, Patterson, Cotto, Pacquiao, Arguello, all come to mind.

Corbett comes to mind as a thorough racist.

I suppose the nominators should clue us in as to why their nominees are great men outside the ring.

For Schmeling it is because he never succumbed to Hitler and became a Na zi. Max became a millionaire with Coca-cola after the war and paid for Joe Louis's funeral.

How I wish there was some footage of him but his record and opposition was simply insane.

                      Gentleman Jim

Did he act like a gentleman? Was it his whole entire schtick? He liked rubbing shoulders with Hollywood elites and Vaudeville stars? In the 19th Century?

You guys act like we need to have a manifesto sometimes. "Don't let him knock that ****** out" - doesn't mean he's racist per se. Goes by Gentleman, doesn't mean he's racist perse. He's a white dude in an era when most white dudes are hardcore racist, but perse doe.

The fact this man was white at the tail of the 19th means, probably. The fact he went by gentleman in a time when gentlemanly behavior incorporates how to treat the lesser races and sex, and the fact that Jim Corbett said racist **** ... probably a racist.

Why are we always pretending our champions are some forward thinking egalitarians who are the exception of their time just enough to not believe like their time but not enough to give any sign at all that they believe anything about equality? This dude was a dumbass. All champions are. The smartest champion ever in the history of always is a ****ty scientist, a ****ty philosopher, a ****ty scholar. The biggest brag youse chuck out ever is but some went to college doe. Jesus ****, probably a ****ing racist should be your default and proving he wasn't should be the ask.

You want to have a contest? See how many racist quotes I can source and you find quotes of Jim Corbett calling for equality, see who gets more?

                      Of ****ing course you don't.
