  • Joe Louis vs the champions

All fights are 15 rounds with 6oz gloves used in Louis day. All fights are each fighter at their respective best.

Louis vs Sullivan - Joe by mis rounds knockout. Sullivan never saw a fighter that could put punches together like Louis.

Louis vs Corbett - Corbett is slick, but not good enough for Louis. Joe presses the action and wins a unanimous decision.

Louis vs Fitzsimmons - Jow by knockout, but not before tasting the canvas.

Louis vs Jeffries - louis tears Jeff up on the
inside with better combination punching. This is easily Joes hardest fight to date.

Louis vs Hart - Joe by 3rd round ko. Marvin to brave for his own good.

Louis vs Burns - same prefiction and reason as the Hart fight.

Louis vs Johnson - Very tough fight, but like the Jeffries fight Louis chops big jack down on the inside. Johnson has his moments but loses a decision.

Louis vs Willard - Timber!! Joe doesnt do it as fast as Dempsey, but it would be nearly as brutal. Joe by ko.

Louis vs Dempsey - as much as it pains me to say it, I think Dempsey hurts him early. Joe hangs on for a bit but it's stopped in 5. Very bad styles matchup for Louis.

Louis vs Tunney - this is a tactical fight with Gene winning the early rounds but Louis applying pressure the whole time and landing the better punches. Louis by close decision.

Louis vs Schmeling - a rinse and repeat of their second fight with Max lasting a few more rounds but still taking a horrific pounding.

Louis vs Sharkey, Carnera, Baer, Braddock - See their respective fights, same results.

Louis vs Charles - Ezzard a great technician but Louis to much at his best. Close fight but a late stoppage for Louis.

Louis vs Walcott - mid round ko for Louis. Jersey Joe as frustrating as always, but gets caught trying to be cute against a prime Louis.

Louis vs Marciano - I think Louis batters the rock after taking the canvas. Joe stops the rock on cuts.

Louis vs Patterson - Floyd is fast but he can't hold Joe off and is stopped in 4.

Louis vs Liston - Joe's better speed and combination punching give him the win when the Liston camp throws the towel in after 11 rounds.

Louis vs Ali - I've gone back and forth on this fight SO many times. Tonight I feel like Ali stops Joe in 7. Ali was a big guy, superfast, and could punch better than he is given credit for.

Louis vs Frazier - Frazier walks right into Louis power and pinpoint accuracy. Louis stops him in 3.

Louis vs Foreman - another fight I go back and forth on. Foreman by stoppage. He hurts Joe early and never let's him off the hook.

Louis Vs Leon Spinks - early knockout for Joe.

Louis vs Norton - Kenny keeps it close but his chin betrays him midrounds and gets stopped.

Louis vs Holmes - Holmes by decision in a fight reminiscent of his fight with Norton. Both are down in this fight but Holmes squeeze by for a split decision.

Louis vs Micheal Spinks - Spinks herky Jjerky style is problematic until Hoe figures him out and stops him in 7.

Louis vs Tyson - same result as the Dempsey fight.

Louis vs Douglas - long night for Joe here but he lands the better punches and more frequently pulling a UD.

Louis vs Holyfield - Holyfield goes to war but it proves to be his downfall. I like Louis by late stoppage.

Louis vs Bowe - at his best this is a nightmare matchup for Louis. I think he is more accurate and determined though. Joe by decision.

Louis vs Moorer - Louis by ko. Moorer chin never stood up against a great puncher.

Louis vs Lewis - I like Lennox in this fight. At his best he is almost as technically good as Joe and bigger. Lewis by late stoppage.

Louis vs Wlad - Wlad is a very technically sound fighter as well, but his chin isn't holding up. He'll clinch and make it boring trying to wear Louis down but Joe hammers away until he gets the stoppage.

Louis vs Fury - my heart says Louis, but Fury has proven you can't count him out. He's big, fast for his size and awkward. I think Joe beats him, but it's an ugly fight and goes the distance.

This was just an exercise in fun. You don't have to agree with any of it, and I'd probably change some things if I thought more deeply about them. But I put this together in about 15 minutes on a whim.

just a quick note, I believe by the 30s heavyweights were beginning to switch to 8s. Correct me if I am wrong, in many fights Louis used 8 oz

      - - Pretty sure Louis started with 6oz and nearing his last years was in regulation 8oz, but boxing is so poorly managed as a business model that records are scattered across the hundred or more jurisdictions that sanction boxing and may not even have bothered to keep many records.

At least you didn't have Louis winning every fight.

No fighter wins all of them in my opinion
styles make fights and no one figured out every style of every fighter.

Agree 100%. I've always maintained that if you made a grid listing eace champion from Sullivan to Fury, listed vertically and horizontally and ticked the box to allow each to fight each on their best night; not one would remain undefeated. I believe this.

the 6oz were what Dempsey wore. His “bring back the small gloves comment”. Most of the fights of Louis on youtube he’s got 8s on. I believe Robinson had 8s as well.

I want to say I think I remember Louis having worn 6oz gloves at some point from his biography by Art and Edna Rust, but can't be sure.

                    - - It's nothing you can prove, but rather just a part of your flawed belief system.
