The Hardest Hitting Heavyweight (Pure Power)

Guys let me clarify something... Nobody has accused me, but I might well accuse myself of being difficult by listing a series of heavyweights whom I consider very hard hitters, and BTW CF Chang gets points for mentioning Jackson... The thing that makes it difficult to single out one or two hitters for me has to do with two distinct phases regarding a hard punch: There is the delivery, the mechanics, the specific techniques/affects (heavy handed, fast, etc) and then there is the effect on the opponent.
I do not believe that there is a absolute relationship between power and effect on the opponent. Marge made a similar point I believe, referring to hitting a punching machine... There was a really cute women MMA middle weight who hit the bag/machine as hard as any male contemporary, make of that what you will...
part of power is how you directly affect opponent. But there is also other factors that are equally important such as accuracy, timing, quickness (people fall when they are hit unexpectadly). |Different punchers achieve results in different ways with power being an important, but by no means, absolute variable. For example: Shavers and Foreman were heavy handed hitters. Wilder has extension and speed as did Liston. part of Liston and Wilder's power is their foot speed and coming off a dominant fighting line. Shavers and Foreman cut the ring and have a large percentage of weight fowards so the shoulder is over the front foot... this weight makes the punch heavy and concussive.
Dempsey and Louis threw straight and accurate, the spine rotation was excellent. And yes... technically a hook in boxing in a straight punch thrown at a 90 degree angle to the opponent. Interesting aside: in Joshua's last fight he was doing a warm up exersize where he was rotating the punching arm, shoulder and hip through the target, in an exagerated fashion. Someone apparently was working with him on the concept of rotation as it adds to force on a punch.

You didn't get it, not your fault; I forgot to remember you are the most humorless fellow on Boxing Scene I know of, and that of course you wouldn't get it. I even had a flash right afterwards that you would not get it. But I let it go. Silly mistake, but nonetheless a mistake. So I accept your chastisement for not making it simple enough for you to get.
As for Marchegiano, I am too schizoid to know if I am him. Maybe he knows, if you ask him nice.
Why would I want to encourage Dr Duck to post? If he wanted to shoot himself I would gladly load the gun for him that's the extent of it.
I think Marchegiano is less than a full shilling and you run him a close second, happy now?

It looks as though Deontay Wilder has won the poll!
Not a bad pick. I voted for Big George Foreman myself, but they all hit like murder.
Anyway, it's a hard time for Wilder, so it's good to see something positive about him. It's the first "he sucks" era for Wilder's career. Resurgent Parker was a bad career mapping choice for a long inactive Wilder, and so is Zhang.
Joshua would have been heaven sent for Wilder's style.

I won't touch you up too rough, kid. Even if I am forced to backhand some sense into you across these pages, I'll take it easy so I can save some for the hyenas. They could probably stomach you.

You were hellbent on having a row with me,despite my attempt to pacify you, well now you have it.
Keyboard warrior talk of roughing me up doesn't impress me ,since I am 75 years old you probably could.
I boxed for the best part of 20 years, in my prime I would slap a ****** **** like you silly, so don't even use those expressions figuratively to me .Now run along you ****ing half wit, you aren't all there.Last edited by Ivich; 04-01-2024, 04:53 PM.
