Being a great lightheavyweight then becoming the first to ever move up from that weight class and win the Heavyweight Championship.
yes he was one of the greatest modern fighters. Certainly it mainly due to his work at 175. I didn't care for the way he beat Holmes, Spinks fighting style was irritating to a Larry Holmes fan. The first fight Michael did win it.
Beeing the first to beat a great heavyweight champion of Larry Holmes's caliber seals the deal for Spinks.Comment

If we look closely at what he did, heâÂÂs an all time great.
being so much smaller than Cooney but dominating him in such fashion, then the 2 victories of Holmes. itâÂÂs easy to see Spinks was probably ducked by Many. He would have beat Holyfield, likely Moorer - and has a good chance of UDing George.
we can look at the Tyson fight, but he was already set to retire and hadnt fought in a year - and I just have a sneaking su****ion than king WaNTED him to lay down for Tyson, setting the stage for the next era. Even in the event that Tyson has his number, it could be a style thing as well.
Spinks loss to tyson way before the bell sounded and it wasnt because the fight was fixed. Spinks knew he didn't stand a chance against a prime heavyweight. Especially not a 20 year old one that was faster and strongerLast edited by Hustle; 01-09-2024, 09:49 AM.Comment

Between Greb, Archie, and Ez, Spinks has as much beating of all of them as they have of beating him, LH easily being the most competitive top division in boxing.Comment

I wonder which weight classes held the largest number of participants per decade.Comment

At Heavyweight they were slower, which fed right in to Byrds true power, speed and ability.
Byrd could box his ass off, all of the Byrds were good boxers.
I fought his brother at an ABF Tourny way back in the day.

Well, not that easily. He won by a 3-4 point margin (in a 15-rounder), and suffered quite a bit in the second half of the fight, when Braxton came back strong.
Incidentally, Braxton had been diagnosed with pneumonia a few days prior to the fight, but decided to go on nevertheless. To balance this, Spinks had lost his partner shortly before.
