Well, not that easily. He won by a 3-4 point margin (in a 15-rounder), and suffered quite a bit in the second half of the fight, when Braxton came back strong.

Incidentally, Braxton had been diagnosed with pneumonia a few days prior to the fight, but decided to go on nevertheless. To balance this, Spinks had lost his partner shortly before.

No offense or disrespect to Spinks who is probably the best LH ever.

I see these HW champs beating Spinks in their primes. Wait, the other list is shorter. He would probably beat:

      Sullivan
      Burns
      Hart
      Willard
      Sharkey
      Braddock
      Schmeling
      Carnera
      V Klit
      W Klit
      Joshua
      Patterson
      Johansson
      Ellis
      Leon Spinks
      Tate
      Tubbs
      Berbick
      Smith
      Ruiz
      Daniani
      Bentt
      Hide
      Bruno
      Akinwande
      Rahman
      Jones
      Brewster
      Valuev
      Maskaev
      Briggs
      Chagaev
      Ibragimov
      Haye
      Stiverne
      Martin
      Browne
      Parker
      Charr
      Andy Ruiz
      Bryan
      Dubios

I guess that list was not shorter, but with a bunch of scrub champions added in there too. Since he beats all the scrub champions, he was not a scrub champion himself. Bottom end of non-scrub champions is where he would be placed by me.
Pick a name off your list for me. Where's the 'bottom of the non-scrub' list for you?

      See if we match.

        Dude, Holmes wasn't shot.

He continued to fight for 15 years after fighting Spinks, and beat Mercer 7 years later, and put up a hell of a fight against Holyfield 8 years later.

Yeah the fact that Spinks out boxed Holmes twice when Holmes had never lost is a great victory. Holmes was past prime but not even close to shot.

the only argument is the fights were rather close. Spinks really just edged them and one of them at least coulda gone to Holmes.

People are now talking about Opetaia being a heavyweight force. Too small, gets whacked out.

I mean maybe, maybe not. Who knows until he does it? I thought the same with Usyk.

Opetaia is a different level to Jirov as well.

Cruiserweights (and some light heavys) have shown the capability of moving up and doing well at Heavyweight.

Jirov never had a chance because he's average. He did nothing of any real note at Cruiserweight so his chances at HW were always nil.

First of all Holmes was 12 1/2 years into his career. Anyone who saw him fight Spinks should realize he was way down from his peak--dead jab, slow and lumbering, no snap at all. Maybe that was just for Spinks, but then why would he be only a scruple better for such an important rematch? To reclaim his title he would have been the best he could be at the time. It wasn't very good, was it?

Oh, you are rolling your eyes? Who is going to forget you just called Jirov a great cruiserweight? I imagine just about every eye rolled with that scholarly appraisal.

Yeah, I said Spinks may very well be the best light heavy ever. So what? A lot of people feel the same.

Holmes retired for 3 years after the 2nd Spinks fight . Retired for another 3 years after the Tyson fight and retired for another 1and a 1/2years.you're wording it as if he was fighting continuously for 15 years, disingenuous to say the least!

I definitely did not say Jirov was a "great cruiserweight".

I only think of Holyfield & Usyk as great cruiserweights.

Everybody else are just blown up light-heavys or deflated heavyweights

Y'all musta forgot, because you certainly did call him a great cruiser weight, lad.
