Willie Pep was perhaps the AT greatest pure boxer but not the Goat of all boxing.

More wins against more HOFers than any other boxer in history, makes him the obvious choice for me.
No footage of him and mostly of these HOFERS were not elite fighters respectfully many of the past fighters were not better than Chisora but they were "HOFERS"

When we're talking "greatness", I believe we mean accomplishments in their own time. Which is very different from the best of all time.

Comparing fighters of different eras will always be met with the difficultly of measuring todays fighters durability versus old timers who fought several times per month, used 4 - 6 ounce gloves, and didn’t have the advantages of modern nutrition, footwear, and of course PEDs, which brings me to my next measure of greatness.

How many ATG fighters who have tested positive in recent decades (Fury, Mosley, Jones Jr., Toney, Canelo) or have a heavy cloud of su****ion hanging over their heads (Holyfield, Mayweather, Marquez) should have their legacies questioned and how would their careers have played out without the PEDs?

Robinson, Pep, Greb, Moore, had durability that cannot be matched or rivaled by greats like Ray Leonard, Michael Spinks, De La Hoya, who had relatively short careers by comparison.
I almost wonder if human bones, joints, tendons etc. just got weaker recently. It's hard to fathom how those men fought so much more in much more brutal circumstances, with inferior dieting, training methods and injury rehab/recovery.

            Ali

He made 9 defenses in his first title reign. Got suspended for 3 years. Then made 10 defenses in his second title reign....while beating Foreman, Liston, Frazier, Patterson in his career.

Exercise methods they used were isometric. Doing a lot of push-ups, pull-ups, dips and that sort of motion develops your ligaments and tendons. Modern fighters have included weight lifting into their workouts, which CAN work the ligaments if you put emphasis on the negative rep, but many do not. I also think there is something to be said for nutrition. Back then people were eating more whole foods rather than the processed junk we have today. They were getting raw nutrients that healed the body versus synthetic supplements and questionable foods today that are loaded with growth hormones and other chemicals.

I also completely forgot about another extremely important aspect: PED's(And yes most fighters have been using it for many decades now) since the 60s/70s.

While it helps fighters recover quicker and get more results overall physically, there are also theories that roids cause more injuries in the long run. The implication is that these drugs overload your body into doing an unnatural amount of training which your body is not capable of handling. In a way trying to override your own genetics. You might be able to creature a structure with thinner bolts which will hold for a while but eventually they're gonna snap and cave in.
