I suppose the writers at the time were "simple minded" and didn't understand the history...while living in it.

How about State Boxing Commissioners. Simple minded and didn't understand.

And top promoters as well. Simpleminded and didn't understand the history.

We should all believe the guy who is so delusional that he tried to convinced the board that Harry Wills didn't want the fight

Why did the Montreal and Chicago fights vs. Wills fall through? Let's see what you've learned.
I was waiting for Trav and Queen to square up in here.

        - - Yellow journalism hearsay, eh?

No, young Wills was one of the HOF quadrille that included Jeanette, McVea, and Sam that JJ ducked whilst champ. It's obvious that Wills as bigger, stronger, and younger than the others most especially needed to be ducked. Thanks for the reminder...

Here is one source, NYT March 20th, 1924 which explains why the previous year's effor to arrange a Dempsey-Wills fight in Montreal was killed by protests. (Actually 18 months earlier in 1922)

This article explains that Rickard is making a second try hoping the anger from last year's attemp doesn't get in the way again.

Of course it did. But I am of the mind that Dempsey, after Firpo, intended not to fight again until 1926; until he was free of Kearns, who was taking 50% of every purse and spending Dempsey's half as well.

The cherry picker you are arguing with is going to pull out his ass a Dempsey quote where Dempsey refuses the date of the Montreal fight.

But that quote comes from Dempsey when he was ambushed by reporters who hit him with an (unsigned) date for the fight Dempsey, a date Dempsey never heard before.

Dempsey refuses to accept that date but this cherry picker will try to distort that into Dempsey refusing to fight Wills.

Besides the fight had already had its wheels come off even before Dempsey spoke, when Rickard and Flourney both had already pulled out because of the mixed bout protests.

But all he has is a single source of Dempsey refusing the date of the fight not the fight itself. It's classic cherry picking, history lite.

I like Ivich have become exhausted with posters who start threads with purely bias agendas and then try to cloud the debate with redundant, out of context facts.

False. Jack Johnson had a fight scheduled for Wills but the commission wouldn't allow it.

Again, what does JJohnson have to do with Dempsey ducking Wills, dumbo?

LMAO. Wahhhhhhh.....he was just ambushed by reporters and didn't know what to say

If Dempsey didn't know what the date was, why would he pull out stating that he needed more time, dumbass? So you admit that he just wanted to duck him period. Thanks.

And I have more than one source talking about how upset they were at Dempsey.

You claim Flournoy pulled out? You're a liar. He was pissed at Dempsey for refusing to step up. If he pulled out, why was he still trying to get Dempsey to take the fight after he ducked it, hmmmmmmmmm?

What you are tired of is having your head so far up Dempsey's ass that you can't see straight

                - - Again, how many times was Dempsey/Wills killed by local politics in spite of having the best financing and venues of the day?

And then killed when financing disappeared because no investor wants to waste time and money on a fight that would be killed?

Meanwhile, Jack goes to Hollywood with his new wife and spar partner Big Bill Tate to keep him in training for Wills whilst Kearns has a lien on his bank account.

Tell us again about how Dempsey ducked Jeannette who was in the opposite corner ready for an unexpected exhibition?

                Guffaws all around, that story!!!

It was never killed except when Dempsey didn't want the fight. I believe early on NY was playing games until they got Muldoon to step aside for the specific reason that he was standing in the way of the fight. Once he was out of the way, the fight could have been made in New York. New York was damn near begging for the fight and trying anything they could to get Dempsey to step up. Could have been made in Montreal. Could have been made in Chicago.

I'm not sure what Jeannette has to do with this. Sure seems you want to deflect to other people very badly. This is about Dempsey and Wills. Dempsey wanted no part of it.
