Yeah he was, but that was a fight that the public wanted at a catchweight.

After Calzaghe showed no interest Hopkins fought him instead.

Yes Calzaghe and Johnson were signed to fight multiple times with Calzaghe pulling out due to injury.

Yes Ottke did but it doesn't change the fact they were the #1 and #2 at the weight for years and the fight never happened.

Point being, there were plenty of fights the public wanted that didn't happen so it wasn't just Froch like you claimed. I'm not saying it was his fault, but they didn't happen.

And as a result of that his resume is very poor. There are 10+ fighters that were in the Top 5 at some point during his reign that he didn't fight (when they were in the Top 5)

I think calzaghe would run through 168 today but i still dont think he is that great. he got hopkins and jones who were geriatrics and still got dropped by them. then what jeff lacy was his best win after those two geriatrics.

He has three wins over Top 5 ranked opponents; Kessler, Lacy and Hopkins.

Kessler was his best win, Lacy was a good win on the basis he was overhyped and a big favourite although the asterisk is that Lacy is garbage, Hopkins is a good win, but he arguably lost that one.

              Not impressive to me.
I believe he only fought 5 Ring ranked opponents.

Poppy the Ring Champ and Roy Ring #5 when Roy fought them.

Joe signed with the onerous Allegedly who dominated British boxing then and still hands on with Blubber and the mob. Joe fought and whooped who they put in front of him without complaint. As soon as his contract expired with Joe still not even able to buy his own home in spite of making a fortune for Allegedly, so he flies overseas to take on American icons and utterly humiliated them while taking home all the $$$ he needs for the rest of his life.

SuperJoe didn't hang on stinking out the place like TBE TUE l'l floydy did

how come no one has mentioned him beating eubank?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z93vGUvhY_4 if you watch this at 10.00 to 13.00 he beat eubank in a really tough fight.
I am surprised no no here mentioned that win.

Also, I think my dyslexia and his name, specifically spelling it... might have influenced my opinion on him and who's fault is that!? Not Joe's.

Seriously one has to admire how he took apart Lacy. It is one of those things that seems to happen constantly... People have 20/20 hindsight about how Lacy was lacking, but at the time Lacy was considered a murderous puncher coming up the food chain. Joe never had any doubts...

Welsh fighters always have seemingly given a good account of themselves! Joe is part of a venerable tradition. Tommy Farr is a guy who I enjoy watching tape of.
Thanks for saying that bill. Cheers!

What public wanted Calzaghe vs. Ottke? Without the internet I would have never known who he even was.

Top Rank admitted Pavlik vs. Hopkins was one of the biggest mistakes they ever made. Pavlik was never the same after that loss. From what I remember Calzaghe vs. Johnson was a non-title catch-weight fight. Johnson was a big risk..... sold no tickets and wasn't a real 'name' Johnson couldnt even beat Clinton Woods, I think Calzaghe would have beaten him.

Calzaghe vs. Froch had real demand, in the UK, where Calzaghe would have made real money.
