From what I remember Calzaghe vs. Johnson was a non-title catch-weight fight. Johnson was a big risk..... sold no tickets and wasn't a real 'name' Johnson couldnt even beat Clinton Woods, I think Calzaghe would have beaten him.

Calzaghe vs. Froch had real demand, in the UK, where Calzaghe would have made real money.
    None of that is relevant.

Ottke and Calzaghe were #1 and #2 at that weight for years, obviously that was a fight that people wanted.

The fact Top Rank said it was a mistake and the fact Calzaghe would have beaten Pavlik is totally irrelevant to the point. The public wanted that fight and Calzaghe’s dad acknowledged that, they weren’t interested so Hopkins fought him instead.

Again it’s irrelevant if Calzaghe would have beaten Johnson or how big of a risk it was, the public wanted it and it didn’t happen.

To say that the only fight he missed is Froch is just not true. There’s plenty that he missed that were in the Top 5 when he was there.

I am surprised no no here mentioned that win.
Because Eubank was unranked and hadn’t beaten a ranked fighter himself for about 3 years.

Do you reckon joe was one of the greatest underrated champions. i was a huge fan years ago i loved his style and attitude. do americans underate the welshman to this day.
aajoe.jpg how great do you americans rate the italian/welsh champion. is my hero worship misguided or is he a greatest champion like i feel he is. joe trained so hard and his dad was his trainer. watch the doc i linked to it is really good.
The man got away with more slapping/cuffing than any other fighter in history..................Rockin'

I don't remember any public demand for Calzaghe fighting anyone. In what country was that demand? He clearly beat Hopkins - BEFORE Hopkins dominated Pavlik in a one-sided fight. Hopkin was coming off a domination of Tarver and defeated Winky. Not sure how Hopkins was not more valid than some of the people you named like Pavlik or Johnson.

Look at his fight with Lacy. He tore his face up with his slaps and cuffs.

You must be pretty hard as well watching the man slap and cuff his opponents in to submission.

You have no clue as to how those shots will effect you, nor what it's like to fight with a torn up face.

How well would you fight with blood dripping in to your eyes because of that slapping/cuffing?

                Was this a slap?lol

How about the kd of Byron Mitchell was that from a slap?
Veit was down twice in both fights before being stopped, were they from slaps?
Pudwill was floored 3 times ,were they slaps too?
                How about the KD's of
                Eubanks
                McCintyre
                Woodhall
                Hanlon
                Minton
                Delaney
                All slaps?

Personally I'd rather be slapped or cuffed, than punched

Maybe it's just me, but the only criticism some people exaggerate about Calzaghe is that he fought mostly on local ground. But the man was insanely unorthodox and talented, I doubt he would've performed differently if not in the UK.

Probably every champion is overrated or underrated, very often it's both.

                    - - Eubank a huge name in the UK and would've certainly been highly ranked had boxrec been available.

He was knocked down twice by SuperJoe who was green contender in his first world title fight. He had been fighting at a cruiserwt before Calzaghe, and since he was already in training, it was easy to fight Joe back at 168.

Eubank had a great chin and seldom down in his career. In his very next fight that was also for a title, he knocked down the iron Brit Carl Thompson before dropping a very close decision.

You know, the Carl Thompson who obliterated young Daveed Haye? Yeah...
