    - - Actually, London was just trying to sell papers and get his name in the news. If anything he over compliments JJohnson for his Burns victory.

He also disparaged Johnson at every turn, was racially insensative even for the time! I don't know why London would be motivated by popularity... Not saying its not possible, but the guy was a socially progressive who seemed an ubermenscht sticking it to the man, and in solidarity with the rest of the Oakland Strevedores and other hard men...Except when it came to Johnson lol.

        - - Called on Jeff to "Wipe the Golden Smile off Johnson." a short and sweet bit of fistic poetry very complimentary to both.

He kinda forced Jeff back lol. I don't know if that is absolutely true, I mean Jeff was not a 4 foot midget that had to do what he was instructed, or catch a beating lol. Jeff, for whatever reason decided to climb back into that ring and fight... But London definitely had a part in it.

$$$$$$$ - I'd bet it was more than any other payday he received.

Plus six years out - everyone can use a cash infusion.

Well there you go... 2+2=4. That makes sense.

You know your general history Pep. I remember reading that when General and President Washington retired, he really had to watch the spending. I was suprised. Can't imagine a politician these days having to do so... But I find myself often assuming these guys were comfortable after earning paydays, that they put the money together for a rosy future... We know Jeffries had a farm and all. But it really does not work that way at all... I have to remind myself lol.

Its never even about the money because society has been designed to take everything away from big earners. The taxes people pay on big checks are more than half, sometimes closer to 2/3rds considering all the things included, the parvenue seldom get to pass it on in this country... Just like the classist society, which we are, the only people to hold on to it are the 1% who have extraordinary assets that are always generating money. I always tell people watch Floyd closely... I give him another ten years at most before its all gone. Society is just not conducive to letting people hold on to wealth while living a high roller lifestyle.

The only thing I disagree with is your remark about "taxes."

I suspect you are correct regarding the 2/3rds remark, but that includes, managers, trainers, camp expenses, not just taxes.

RE JEFFRIES: THe income tax doesn't apply until 1917. No income tax (direct tax) until then.

Even if Jeffries was frugal in handling his money it is tough to walk away ftom that kind of a payday.

P.S. Washington had his own little scandal as he was passing off improvements at Mt. Veron as "expenses." Even Washington had a scandal! Lol
