Many on here have adamant opinions about the matter, both ways. But no one is producing a coherent narative of the events.
Just piecemeal evidence with no back story or outcomes explained.
No one has put together a serious argument or has offered a complete narative.
I started it off by identifying why the post-Burns, Langford-London fight was understandably called off because of purse issues. But there my knowledge ends.
All I read on here are the same repeated posts, generalizations supported by piecemeal evidence.
If you claim it true either way produce a timeline.
Yes, and we know what happened. The fight was pulled by the promoter through no fault of Johnson.
- - Johnson made hisself persona non grata in Oz, unlike Sam who was feted like a King when doing his year tour of his best year ever knocking out or otherwise beating up a who's who of heavies.

I don't think anyone could dislike Sam. Seemed to be a great guy. He was also great friends with Johnson until his death. (McVea I mean.)

With your Dempsey-Wills attitude recognized . . . I think you should give Ftizsimmons/Kearns/Dempsey a nod for taking care of Langford a little.
When he came looking for an (unrealistic) shot at the title in 1920 they gave him a place on the Miske undercard against Tate. A payday, when they didn't need to share with him.
Dude, I don't care about Jeffries. He was old, had not fought his six years and barely sparred for the contest. He should have fought and beat Johnson earlier in his prime and judging by the common opponents fought and Johnson's numerous losses and draws to folks like Griffin, Hart, and Choynski, and a past his best Everett and company it is logical to assume so. I am not talking about that 1910 fight except to say that the spectators at ring side said Jeffries was a shell of what he was. Bob Fitzsimmons called Jeffries a quarter of the fight he fought. End of.
I am taking about what JOHNSON was offered to fight Langford, Jeannette, and McVey and what amount he did fight O'brien, Tony Ross, Al Kaufman, Jim Battling Johnson and Frank Moran for. Got it?
Keep deflecting what I am saying. It is less than what he was offered to fight the big three. You can not look this up because you know I'm right. You just can not admit a bad thing about your idol and let's be frank on why you are defending him.
Aside from boxing he is a cult man who beat up women an assaulted a sickly 120 pound man. That is why I don't care for him.
Johnson drew the color line against McVey, Jeannette, and Langford while champion. Even said so much in an interview that nuthuggers insist was just sarcasm. The only time he defended his title against a black challenger was Battling Jim Johnson, who Jack only cleared $1,000 to fight after expenses. That same year he turned down Jeannette who offered him $20k. They could have made that fight easily, but Jack wasn’t having any of it. He insisted he was the first black champion and he’d be the last.

Hopefully Travestyny is reading this. Jack only cleared $1,000 for his fight vs Journeyman Batting Jim Johnson meanwhile Joe Jeanette offered $20,000,00?! It's clear he would have made more vs. Jeannette. The fight could have happened with no legal issues or social objection in France. The French stripped Jack Johnson of his title. Jeannette was shafted and denied his chance of making history. It is a shame.

Dempsey liked and respected Langford.
Dempsey could have taken care of Langford better if he would have fought him, but the story goes he was too afraid to do so. According to Dempsey, that is. I try to use only his words now since you become enraged with anything I mention about the man.

Sure, I'm reading it. You could have posted it to me directly if you wanted a more prompt response.
The Battling Jim Johnson fight was a quick money grab before the main course, which was Frank Moran, which was to be for his asked price of $30,000. The Moran fight was to be immediately after the Battling Jim fight, but it had to be put off after Johnson broke his arm in the fight. Obviously Johnson expected Johnson to be easy money and would use it as a light go round before going all out I think it was to be maybe even as close as a few weeks later fighting Moran.
See that. When you actually do the research, you learn why things make sense. But keep trying. Maybe one day you'll find the smoking gun you've been hoping for... Good luck!

Do some research, Moran was not paid a dime! He fought him for FREE. The fight was 7 moth after the Johnson fiasco with Batting Jim Johnson which Jack cleared only 1,000.
Meanwhile he avoided fighting Jeanette's for 20,000K. Do some research if it not too much work for you and you will honesty intepet it.
World Heavyweight Title
One ringside report said that the spectators loudly protested that the men were not fighting and demanded their money back. Jack Johnson said he injured his left arm in the third round and could not use it, but ringsiders said he used his left often and likely fractured it when both fell to the mat in the tenth round. Post-fight examination revealed a slight fracture of the radial in his left arm. In August it had been widely reported by Joe Woodman that Johnson had agreed to terms to fight Sam Langford in Paris.
