No one will approach his resume, because fighters don't fight that often anymore; its one of those things in sports that is a product of its time (Cy Young's win record, etc). Thats not to say he isn't the GOAT, or a once in a lifetime talent, rather that to throw resume out there without context would dictate an argument that nobody is close (nor will ever be). Duran, Leonard, etc, the best of the best of their generation all approach him as he was not superhuman.
I like the mentions of RJJ and what we would have thought had he retired post Ruiz, its a shame that we let someone's post prime work diminish what we think about them. Thats not to argue that longevity isn't a factor, but in discussions like this we are most certainly arguing about what they were at their best, not what they were when they were old. Unless someone wants to argue that Ugas ranks higher on the GOAT ranking than Manny....Comment

We can also combine older fighters than him who has a GOAT case with younger buds.
Pre-SRR: Langford, Greb, Armstrong
The same era: Charles
Post-SRR: Duran, Pacquiao, Canelo
7 of top 10 ATG are here. It's good. SRR is historians' common favourite but not utterly unrivaled. Greb is still the biggest alternative against him.Last edited by Silence; 12-14-2022, 10:51 AM.Comment
