No announcement yet.
When was the last time a smaller man beat a good top ten ring magazine ranked larger man on points in a significant fight at heavyweight?

Haye even beat a Valuev who was 100lbs heavier and 10 inches taller.
Dudes like Jack Dempsey & Joe Louis were beating the hell out of bigger dudes 100 years ago.
Stop the nonsense.
So as you see if list of tier two big heavies beaten by smaller heavies is rather thin. But thanks again for the information it makes me sharper. And I've got nothing against ginger haired southpaws regardless of what Ivich says!
You are and Jab bring forth good information!

These are all fights were the shorter or lighter boxer wins. The reason you don’t see happen to often today guys between the height of 5’10-6’2 don’t go into the heavyweight division and are not advised to unlike the were in the past.

You never answered me.I am looking for examples of in thread, you are helping me with the smaller heavyweights beating the larger super heavyweight sized heavies that are mediocre in skill. There just are just one exceptions that have come up in the tier 1 category vs . elite level talent ( just one ) and Tier two has just a few examples. That is one of the points of this thread, in case you have not guessed.
Heavyweights are getting bigger and its intellectually dishonest to say the 210 pound guys let alone 190 pond guys can out point them if they are skilled. 30 years is quite a case study is it not?
Look man, I boxed and was a 220 pound heavyweight 215 is shape at my ideal weight. 6'2" with a 77" reach I am. Larger for a 90's guy, not that I went pro or anything like that. I wasn't that good and had better options as a young man and I had my fill and treasure the experience. Fans don't realize two things. Well maybe more that about heavy weight boxing. 1 ) Unless your are a heavyweight not a Middle Weight or lower weight your really have NO clue what they have to deal with because they have never really be hit by a heavyweight. I used to have a very good welter weight hold the heavy bag for me, and I could send him flying off it if I wanted too. I used to smile at this as a younger man, but looking back I shouldn't have. 2 ) Most heavies don't like hard sparing and seldom do it. A nose and a liver aren't much tougher form a welter weight to a heavyweight, but one guy really hits harder than the other. I used to hold the heavy bag for all types and you can feel the power on your chest. Few fans experience this. Anyway a light weight and I'd hardly feel it. A welter weight I feel it a bit more. A middle and the good ones can hit but not too hard. Light heavy weight can hit, well some of them. But heavyweight can hurt you even holding the bag if your not ready for the blow. Just imagine the impact the impact of the blow to the other parts of your anatomy unprotected. Now that is heavyweight boxing! That is physics. 3 ) unless you have spared with a really big guy, you don't know how big of an advantage they have. In my day, I didn't mix it with ANY super heavies but I did mix it with some bigger guy a few bigger guy some x UM football players giving boxing try, most of which would deposit their gun shields in the trash can after a month. Scary dudes, lucky for me that were newbies and didn't have basic skills. But if they had skills and speed. Yikes!
Getting back to my point these super heavies 6'5" tall, 240+ pounds and with a 80" reach are things a normal sized guy can not deal with in general and if they are skilled most regular size heavyweights are out of business. They just are. Boxing has weight classes for a reason. This new breed if super heavies are 2-3 weight classes in size grater than what they used to be. Boxing historically never had this skilled like this. And they created a new weight class. These guy might need a super heavyweight class. Check out my heavyweight top 15 prospects article. It's full if them. Rare are the 6'2" or under heavyweight prospects and there is a reason for that! This isn't your grandfather's you father's or even your older brothers heavyweight division. They have been read out of the division. I even got so far to say in my day if it was like this I would not try boxing...maybe I would and if I did it would not be for long! I'd be one of those guys who placed their gum shield in the garbage within a month.Last edited by Dr. Z; 11-16-2022, 10:51 AM.
