I watched that fight plenty, was a big fan of Solis actually, always love the talent of the Cuban guys... Never saw any phantom punch. Ockham's Razor Queensbury... You have a heavy guy with middle aged knees starting to develop, he puts his weight wrong on a leg and the rest is history. Even if Vitalie caught him, clearly the leg is what stopped him, not the force of the blow. its just a stretch to assume a punch caused the leg to spaz and this momentary spaz caused Solis his? what would you call it? his KO?

Show me where a phantom punch caused anything... Solis was winning the round and handling Vitalie prior to a stumble and then a fall.

Soils was good. A top ten ring magazine fighter he was, Vs Klitschko the punch landed quite clearly. Soils covers up like he was hurt, his knee buckled form the force of the blow. If not for that punch Soils knee would not have buckled. Cuban pro heavies are skilled but for some reason not vey tough, at least they aren't professionally and most seem to lack discipline in the career.

I thought it strange --> it looks like his left leg does a weird stretch forward and then ****s to the side, as a delayed reaction to the punch, causing him to lose his balance, but in trying to regain his footing he shifts his weight, wrenching out his right knee. Then he had nothing to hold him up.

I think he messed himself up trying to maintain his balance.

Probably better off letting the ("anchor") punch put him down like it did Liston and later Williams. *

* Williams (2nd round) took the same right hand as Liston did, with Ali moving backwards, but reacted to it as you would expect a fighter to take such a punch, a quick/flash KD.

- - Balance and movement wise, there is zero to the Ali phantom punch. I've practiced it countless times on my heavybag using his footwork.

What there is, a nice snappy punch at the end that caught Liston off balance after missing a sweeping left hook stumbling forward, enough to stun him as well as knock him off balance to the canvas. NOT a legit KO blow though, but rather the perfect ring conditions coming together in the moment that was never repeated in time.

No he has not. I asked him to visually check it by via hard copy recently. He did not check the issues I was talking about. Trust me, it's there. I saw it. I think he made an over sight on a fine article. At any rate he has backed out of the conversation. I am responding to you , not dragging him back into it.

JCGomez, another tricky southpaw widely ducked in his day said to have embarrassed Vit in sparring.
Undefeated Chris Arreola still in tough fights today.
Undefeated Kevin Johnson still in tough fights today.
A longtime Ring P4Per Tomasz Adamek a two division champ.
A rampaging Derek Chisora only two losses with Vit having his shoulder thrown out again having to do it one handed. Chis still Boxrec top 10 all these years later fighting Blubber next.
