Bull****. Rid**** Bowe was 28 freekin' years old when they first fought and had just turned 29 before the 2nd time. Bowe's weight of 235 was his ideal weight, 5 lbs under what it was for Holyfield III. Bowe was coming of 5 wins against some of the best opponents he'd ever face when Golota beat him up in July 96'. Whatever "Downside" Bowe was experiencing was Andrew Golota's doing.

The excuse that Golota beat Bowe twice had anything to do with Bowe being past it is a reinventing of history.
Golota beat Bowe in two one sided fights because Golota was a slightly better fighter than Bowe was head to head on their respective best day. Bowe was much better managed, and perhaps a little more stable, if only just. That's why his record is so good.

Bowe was sliding no doubt, but when Bowe was allowed to box he was building momentum. But each time Bowe started to find his zone Golota would hit him low (and not tactically low like Dempsey use to do) with hard shots that stopped the action.

Bowe would again slowly start to build his mojo and another low blow would stop the action.

Both DQs were necessary. The issue wasn't decided but couldn't be allowed to play out as it was.

But Bowe pulling out a decision in either fight seems to me the most likely outcome.

I think Golota needed those low blows to stay in the fight.
      - - Not really Pep. Bowe was a nonentity vs Golota, end of. He didn't need lowblows, but Golota was a genuine thug and so reverted to type.

Exactly. Bowe didn't train, overlooked Golota and never recovered after that first beatdown.

Fine fighter before his self discipline failed him.

Prime Bowe would have been a toss up with Lewis ,imo Golota would always be cake for Lennox imo.

Bowe who was trained by the great Eddie Futch was a joy to watch coming up. After becoming champ the refrigerator was his toughest opponent. He would blow up to 300+ pounds between fights. Bowe was another James Toney. Great skills just didn't care.
