A track star who only slaps? He never beat up anyone in his life. In the first place, slapping is illegal, but somehow he got away with it. In a real boxing match none of his blows would have even counted, but would have drawn fouls like the proverbial flies. He is not top anything, that I can see, except top runner. His victories seem about as empty as a man who runs all night, never lands a blow but also is never touched. This guy must have made Derrick Gainer look like a man who stands his ground. Once New York passed a law that reiterated the illegality of slapping, Maxie lost. C'mon, he wasn't even a legitimate boxer in my book.

Who believes Gainer is the most common black surname in America?

I am damned near always harsh according to you! Well, I apologize all over myself. He was the greatest boxer in the world and probably the AT P4P leading contender.

I guess it is way out of line to think otherwise, way out of line to notice he only slapped, way out of line and harsh to consider slapping illegal when it is in every rule book as illegal. The guy was enough of a carnival sideshow freak for people to watch, that's about it. He lived during an era where America was crazy about freak shows--there were still carnivals with fat ladies and strongmen. Street crowds loved a man tightrope walking between skysc****rs, and pilots daredevil flying in airplanes with assistants strapped to the wings.

Maybe that light heavyweight gets a decision against Gene Tunney and Louis too. A reasonable chance. Does that make him better than Tunney and Louis in someone's book? He would be, only if.... Except that his way of fighting is illegal from opening bell to last.

You asked, didn't you? I gave you my reasons why. That's not good enough, eh? Too harsh on the slapper, dang it! I reiterate, there are supposed to be no points given in boxing for slapping. It may take a diamond bit to get that through your obdurate skull.

No, I am not unduly harsh on Slapsie, YOU are practicing arrest and release, with no bail required. I say the man is guilty as charged. Are you from California? New York?...

Ah! Doing the unnecessary political thing again. Let me reply.

"Na! He's from Texas where men are men and the cattle are always nervous."

                Its obvious how Maxie beat those 207 men,among whom were;
                Braddock
                Slattery
                Lenhart
                Walker
                Haynes
                Fox
                Toles
                Ramage
                Levinsky
                Nova
                Godwin
                Knight
                Slattery
                Ettore
                Hudkins
                Adamick
                Lomski
Old Maxie had corrupt referees calling fouls against his opponents so the 207 where frightened to hit him!

Ya, Man; if you're harsh, you're harsh. Got nothin against it. Sometimes its the right approach. Those 207 wins though, and without a big punch - now that took some doing. Especially in that era. Top Twent-five? At 175? Now it doesn't bring you up to Louis & Tunney....but.

Well, when you say top 25 its arguable, but top 10 or 15 he's not. Supposedly Joe Louis didn't seek the match. Too bad, it would hav been filmed. He was rarely stopped. Just twice in 274 known pro matches one time in his 3rd last fight, the other time when he claimed foul.
