Well it kinda works both ways grand Poo Pa! Yu come here with the wrong attitude and want people to respect you because you say you are some great shake. We have posters here who were refs, former pugs, etc and few of them tell everyone how "smart" they are... they don't need to! Of course we get some hot shot authors that come here and want people to think they have the correct perspective at the exspense of others... Ive had it out with one of them. Nope I'm pointing out that excusing Marciano for his actions by citing his environment won't wash because many, many others far more worse off then he and in more desperate traits did not resort to them.
Marciano mugged a gay man in the UK beat him up with a fellow soldier and took his wallet.At the time Marciano was in the US Army so he was getting his three squares a day, clothes on his back, a warm place to sleep, and his army pay to spend,so where was the necessity for him to mug someone? You named two examples of others .
1.Barkley he was in a street gang yes?Was he ever convicted of mugging anyone?
2,Duran who came from a home with an absent Father and dire poverty. Poverty that Marciano certainly never experienced.Its documented that Duran as a boy used to swim across a river to steal mangoes,swim back with them ,sell them and help out his Mother and siblings with the money he raised .That's entirely different from being a well fed ,well clothed soldier and mugging a person for a few bucks just because there are two of you and you can .
If you cannot see the difference between them then you seriously need some help?
Rocky did wrong ,he was caught convicted and paid for his crime,wiping the slate clean,and never did such a thing again,fair does to him!

I don't dismiss them, but I do know there are occasions where they get it wrong. For all of the press that reported on that fight, did every single one of them report it the same way? They sure don't in modern era boxing, so why would they back then? It's easy to cherry pick the sources that back up your point of view. I just gave you a clear example of how ****ell fouled him several times. Perhaps Rocky was just returning the favor? I've read a lot of things about Rocky, but not that he was a dirty fighter the way you are trying to portray him. I do agree with some of the observations you've made about him. He was a frugal guy and a lot of his peers and friends thought he was a cheapskate, but those were also guys who blew their fortunes throwing their money around. Willie Pep died broke, maybe he wasn't the best guy to question Rocky's spending habits?
