Nope I don't know much about Barkley at all , and I haven't read that piece, shocking isn't it!

    This is my remark
"Barkley he was in a street gang yes?Was he ever convicted of mugging anyone?"
Do you see those two little vertical squiggly symbols?
They are called question marks and denote that the typee of them is making an inquiry,ie asking a question..

This is a post of yours.made on the 19th of July 2019
" like when Louis telegraphed his right and Shmelling was able to beat him."
Have you any idea just how ignorant and totally ludicrous that remark makes you?

Here's a tip, if somebody calls you a moron ,don't get annoyed , they are paying you a compliment! lol

then, the part about him knowing everyone in the Mafia. Is a very good point and is a likely point to his character. Which is badass, by the way - lest we forget.

he wasn’t blatantly fouling though or anything of that matter. I never heard of this until this thread. Or saw it.
I read in it a variety of many reports. But more importantly I was there throughout part of his pre-championship and after days, and got Ring Magazine monthly for many years, also Boxing Illustrated from issue one..I have hundreds of them . I was deeply into all facets of boxing, my uncle had been a promoter, Another uncle a carnival fighter, I was steeped in it.

      {Side-note. In a Ring interview with Nat Loubet, Rocky said he had no intention of retiring, he was still learning and expected to fight for some years. This was just a week or 10 days before he announced his retirement. 5 months later Patterson and Archie Moore fought for the vacated title.}

But for ME, his true quality as a manufactured champ is clear because I've looked at ALL his opponents, and gone much further, I've looked at his opponents' OPPONENTS. There was a guy, Ross, who was 10-0. But his first fight outside Quebec and 6 rounders, was against Marciano. Rosses opponents, had a total of ZERO wins, One loss and One draw.-6-7 of them had ZERO fights.

ALso Rocky's first 12 fights, # 1,2,6,8,9 and 12 had ZERO wins and almost NO fights.

(Ross had 22 fights all in Quebec and 6 rds-except Rocky).

.La Starza's record up to his Rocky fight, which he should have won, was that of his 23 fights, 10 had ZERO wins, including the one just before Rocky, 0-0

This was very typical of nearly ALL Marciano's opponents up to his championship fights. I have made a complete list and if I hadn't seen it all on BoxRec I'd never have believed it..

( Cezar Brion (a La Starza opponent) had been KOd the fight before La Starza. his first 9 opponents had One win and Twenty losses-so La Starza had set-ups too.).

Savold had 14 rounds in 4 years before Rocky (3 fights; -2 losses 1 KO 1 Dq 1KO win-against Bruce Wood****).

So maybe you can see why I say that he was a manufactured champion.

By the way, when I say that his greed killed him, I forgot to add that he'd had a free ticket for a regular airline which he cashed in to bum that fatal ride from Fratto.

I didn't know the guy, had nothing against him just that he demeaned boxing, which I loved.

To be fair you might be a whizz at Martial Arts, but as for boxing? You don't know your arse from your elbow! LOL

He once took a ride in a cargo plane with no seats, strapping his young daughter and her friend in the fuselage they hit bad turbulence and she was terrified. A dealer gave him a car,he gave it to his daughter and once when coming back from a trip phoned her and told her to come pick him up from the airport ,cutting out taxis. She did so and on the return trip they were pulled over by a traffic cop,who was going to book them but realised who her passenger was and let them go. His daughter was 13 years old and of course did not have a licence, but then neither did he!
He fought his share of dross, but being a late starter with limited amateur experience that is perfectly understandable .
I totally disagree that he demeaned boxing ,I think he enriched it!
He was a great fighter and champion imo ,and his wars with Walcott ,Charles, and Moore have become part of the very fabric of boxing history.

With no one in the wings to suggest any form of avoidance this just alludes to a competitive era where 0's are hard to keep but Marciano kept his anyone.

I mean the records could be totally upside down bud, it wouldn't make his ride to the title fake, manufactured, controlled or any other synonym that effectively means Rocky had an easier ride than he could have.

Roland could have had a record 1-99 like he's glass jaw joe, if you don't have any 2-98 to say see, this dude is better, all you're pointing out is an era where winning is more difficult than normal.

                      - - My next door neighbor a longtime old time strongman who used to give exhibitions at the local outdoor theater knew I was a boxing fan, so anytime boxing came up he'd recite: Rocky Marciano, 49-0, 43 KOs like baseball fans could recite Babe Ruth's 714 HomeRun record.

Sadly, he's now confined to a nursing home in a wheelchair barely able to lift a fork but maybe still able to bend it..
