  • Fury as an ATG

Come the morning of the 25th one of the following happens to Fury (dependent on your starting place opinion) . . .
    1. Fury is confirmed as a top tier ATG
    2. Fury is moved up to the top tier of ATGs
    3. Fury is left in a position of uncertainty regarding being a top tier ATG
    4. Fury is reduced to a second tier fighter
    5. Fury is exposed; thought a flash in the pan and dismissed.
    Basic possible outcomes . . .
    • Fury stops Whyte in under five rounds
    • Fury stops Whyte in the late rounds of a combative fight
    • Fury wins by UD
    • Fury wins or loses a controversial decision
    • Fury loses a UD
    • Fury gets stopped.
IYO Which scenario begats which placement?

P.S. This does not mean Fury's all time legacy is being decided - only his placement after this fight. His next fight might/can/will change it all again.

Hard to determine his legacy when besides Wlad we really don't know the legacy of his opponents. Will Wilder become a top performing heavyweight against? Can AJ get a win and secure a fight with Fury? After that it's pretty slim pickings. Right now I w I probably wouldn't have him in the top 20 heavyweights all time based on his resume. That could change though. Time will tell.

Tyson Fury is in no way shape or form an ATG and he never will be. The talent in boxing, especially at heavyweight, is at it's lowest level in the history of the sport. Fury is a garbage champion of a garbage division. It's seriously pathetic how certain people are desperate to anoint the the next Great Whyte Dope as one of the greats when the truth is if they fought in an era where there was actually talent they'd be just another horizontal bleeder fed to top of the food chain.

Jesus, people, get a ******** clue.

Hey don't scare away posters I want to hear opinions - one can have Fury at the very top or bottom and still show the fight will affect his status.

I think in general you are putting too much emphasis on a single data point; one fight should not be able to sway our perception of him to such a great degree. If that were true, then you would have to assume you have too small of a sample size to make an accurate assessment (at least if we are basing it on resume).

As of now, his eye test (which I think is good) outpaces his resume. Obviously having a three year gap in his prime years hurts him, and unlike Tyson and Ali he didn't have the build up of a title run prior to his missed years. And while I don't view the modern heavyweight division as being naturally inferior as 'the good ol days'; I recognize the modern boxing business has set up a model where fighters really don't usually build a resume to compare with fighters in decades gone by.

Fury wins tonight. How and when, Nash doesn't know, but prime Fury is unbeatable in any era. The man cannot be denied. Nash would tip Fury to beat prime Ali and prime Frazier at the same time, but because Fury is a modern fighter, crap such as top 20 HW gets spouted. Top 20! What, behind Iron ****e Tyson and the like? Laughable. Prime Mike got outboxed then bustered up by D Level Douglas. Even Holyfield, as a HW was just a journeyman, barely won more than he lost at HW.

The likes of Marciano would be fighting at LHW, and the Ali era, the man who beat Ali 3 times, Ken Norton, would be no more than a solid contender these days. I've seen all these guys, tons of times, good fighters, but for ****s sake, a few chumps here need to put down their nostalgic glasses and enter reality. Stop living in fantasy land, guys.

P.S. Willie Pep, Nash has sent has a nice email to your mother asking her if she would let you put your Tyson Fury poster back up. You told me she made you pull it down and I know that was the pride of your room, so hopefully you can get it back up again. Nash out - Nash is a true boxing historian and a modern day expert as well. He sees things through balanced eyes. He is also 'the people's fan' of the WWE. Viva la Stone Cold.

                  - - Damn near as unbeatable as possible as 6 yrs the Ring Champ with only a single defense, and that the low hanging fruit he needed a trilogy with to get to that defense.

Gnashing U gums over Fury not a good look for U historical legacy, but hey, it's U potty party U flushing.

Pointless defences mean nothing. And Wilder knocks out anybody else from history, and Wlad is an ATG that was 11 year unbeaten, tons of defences too which seems to be your thing. Viva La Fury. Nash out.
