  • Heavyweight Champ Of The Ten Foot Ring

Who would be the all time heavyweight champion of the abbreviated ring?

First of all, what would it take to be champ of the abbreviated ring, what are the requirements for such an athlete?

I suppose reach remains a valuable asset. Does punching power go up in value? Does boxing slickness go down? Does beard take on added value?

Abbreviated ring, no clinching allowed. Who is the king of this ring?

And for anyone interested, the fight between Eddie Hall and Thor is still on. They are scheduled to fight between meals sometime in September of 2 aught 22.

A smaller ring favors the puncher. I can't remember the group that created that small fight setting to encourage more KOs

Of course Dempsey and Marciano are the obvious ones - add in all ****ers as Mark suggests - but I am wondering, would the fights quickly collapse into endless clinching?

I guess I forgot to mention that in this format any clinch perceift as non-accidental will cost a point. You can move, you can punch, you can parry, you can dodge and you can run if you have to, BUT, you may not purposely grab your opponent without loss of a point. Theoretically, you could earn negative points for a round in which you grabbed a lot and grappelt, reducing your chances to a KO, with a decision now impossible unless your opponent decides on a grab-fest as well.

In this format we want to get away from certain customs and procedures that stink up boxing, so we simply do not tolerate them from the outset. Let us not deceive ourselves that boxing custom and protocol is near perfect. Myriad aspects need cleant up, altered and nudged. It is entirely easy to imagine the sport much better than it is through this simple process. Would young Foreman tire earlier in this format, or would it be later?

Clay might well lose to Liston in the 10 foot ring, and Tunney to Dempsey.

I do not think this is an ideal format, or anything like that, but it would cure certain problems that foul boxing. And I am still curious who king of the 10 foot ring would be. I am liking Foreman. Not sure it even matters which Foreman.

There seems to be two types of clinches . . .

One is were fighters fighting in close get tangled up, that seems inevitable . . .

Second is where one fighter grabs the other to stop his momentum . . . that should be a foul and penalized.

Ali was a master of the latter and because he was so popular, and thus powerful in the game, he was allowed to get away with too much if it e.g. Ali-Frazier II.

It then became a slippery slope where grabbing your opponent to stop his attack became a go to tactic and it has ruined many a fight.

Refs need to start penalizing such fighters more quickly; it needs to be deterred.

Rabbit grabbing an opponent behind the neck was a constant, annoying late Clay tactic that should have been penalized until it ceased, but which I believe he was never penalized for once in his entire career. Referees always just politely removed his gloves from opponents' necks, for which those refs really should have been reprimanded, if not fired, for in seconds Clay had his hand back up and a holt of his opponent's nape again.

Is this the one setting where we ALL agree that that Wilt doesn't have a chance?

Favs must be short powerfull sluggers. Dempsey, Marciano, Frazier, Tyson.

His wide amateurish swings might get caught in the turnbuckle.

You gotta appreciate how Kubrat Pulev used a small space at Trilogy Triad hybrid rules show.
