My point is many fighters have had fights where they know their body simply can't continue, but you can't brand their entire career based off one fight.
Louis did not pretty much quit against Schmeling. He took and took and took and took until he finally went out on his shield. This is not a good comparison in my opinion.

Vitali Klitschko was the most dominant champion in boxing history. He lost two matches due to injuries, but he also led by points in those matches. Even the great Lenox retired prematurely because of Vitaly Klitschko.

Premature retirement. Hey, it can happen to any guy.

Well Vitali was 6'7" to Fury's 6'9", gave up 5" in reach and 30lbs in weight, not saying Vitali was small but for a guy used to being the bigger guy in every fight its a bit of a difference.

Vitali used his reach as his main weapon, so losing that he would have to go to plan B which is to go for a tear up, and Fury is more experienced and more natural in that environment.

Good post. And I'll add that Fury has proven he could dig deep when in trouble. Vits never proved that. You can say the Lewis fight, but the fact remains he lost that fight to a guy who came in at a career high and had one foot out the door already .

              - -Wlad immediately completed what Vitali started in domination. Obliviously Vit had shoulder surgery with resultant recovery time, 8 months before he fought again.

I don't see you providing proof of anything but he said she said that her cousin said something incriminating.

                - -Vitali would be the best fighter Fury fought unless you count a decaying Wlad in distress over his new infant unable to have a mother now in full postpartum depression. He was in dissipation like Louis was as he was breaking his most title fights record. Fury would be the 4th best heavy Vitali fought.

                  - -Vit took the fight on 2 weeks notice. Lewie had an 8 week camp plus a month of prefight training in England. Vit lost a fight on cuts exacerbated by Lewie dirty tactics but won the War when he forced Lewie into premature retirement, ie forfeiting tens of millions including the lucrative rematch HBO was willing to move heaven and earth to have.

The Ks bored the hell out of American boxing you mean.

They were never embraced here, unlike other foreign champions who were truly skillful and exciting like Manny Pacquiao for example.

When did boxing become a tag team sport? If you can't finish the job in boxing you don't get a pass because someone else was able to. On top of that, Vittles fought a month and a half after Wlad-Byrd. If he wanted the Byrd fight he would have gotten it. On top of THAT......Vits and Byrd were ranked right next to each other in the top 10 for the next several years with VK never looking to avenge his quit job.
