The truth on why Wilt never fought Ali

Why would anyone who knows the sport believe Ali would back out of a fight with any basketball player OR any athlete from another sport? They were not trained to fight.

IMO the two things that suggest Ali would have taken the fight in '69 is the money issue - he was broke at that point - Ali even said that Frazier slipped him a couple grand one time just to tide him over - second Ali did take the wrestling match for money so why not Wilt?

I agree with this, and what Houdini has been posting. Bottom line is no top athlete from another sport had transitioned to boxing and made an impact, and especially in their first fight. Wilt with no experience was no worry to Ali in my opinion and would have fallen in a few rounds after Ali adjusted to his height and reach.

Yeah, Howie and ABC scheduled the Wilt signing because the NY Commish suspended his license at a much later date. Makes perfect sense in U special kinda st000pid silly putty world.

I think it's great you have finally provided a link for something and claimed a small victory. The problem is, when was he going to fight Wilt? He fought Folley in March of '67 and was stripped in April. They were also on the Howard Cosell show in March, but that left no time for negotiation before his license was unjustly taken away. When the fight was actually viable Wilt backed out, and in the link I provided he says why in his own words combined with the opinions of others as to why he no showed the day of the contract signing.

You like to talk about dunce caps and people's IQ's a lot. You love to insult nearly everyone you converse with on here. But you don't even realize that Ali and Liston's circumstances are very different. Liston had his license suspended in NY. That was overturned 90 days later. That NY wouldn't let him fight there was mostly due to Cus D'Amato who hated Sonny and his criminal background and handlers. Kind of ironic though since Cus himself is said to have had connections and had his managers license suspended in 1959 for misconduct connected to the Patterson-Johansson fight.

Ali on the other hand was first suspended by New York after refusing the draft. Technically he could have fought up til June in other states until he was convicted of draft evasion and sentenced to 5 years in prison and had his boxing license revoked in the United States entirely. So I'll ask you again, when should this fight have happened and where? Ali was obviously in a much bigger and more important fight during that time frame? You will undoubtedly come up with more uneducated BS. In the meantime, you're welcome for the education.
