That night they showed it close circuit at (I think Shea Stadium) they had a pre live show with Chuck Wepner v. Andre the Giant (with Gorilla Monson as Andre's second.) They threw each other around the ring and out of the ring. The fans loved it, but when the real match/bout came on it was boring as hell and the naive fans started chanting fixed.

At least that's how I interpreted the night.

They should've done the Inoki fight like that, staged. The Andre vs. Wepner fight I just saw as I've been going through an Andre compilation. Kinda weird it was a 10 count KO from being thrown out of the ring. I thought boxers got a 20 count to get back into the ring when they went outside of it.

Anyway, the Japanese wanted a real mixed bout, so to get Ali in the ring for $6mil, they had to agree to neuter Antonio down to 20% of his capacity which is why they had Gene Lebelle as the ref as Gene could do more than just break up fights.
