  • Best fighters/styles to match up against Tyson Fury?

Was watching some old Fury clips yesterday. Sometimes recently he looks unbeatable but other times he struggled, he had a rough time with cunningham when cunningham got in close. I couldnt help but think prime Holyfield would have the perfect style to match up against him, he is pretty quick, durable, versatile with both hands and he fights so well on the inside, he could get inside on Fury and take away his huge reach advantage. Hes got the stamina and durability to push and test Fury, i cant help but see him getting a stoppage after wearing down and getting to Tyson.

Agree/disagree? any other fighters or styles could solve Tyson Fury? I forgot how bad he roughed up Wladimir, wlad's face was busted up after the fight, i remembered that as a decision win but he completely shut down wlad who just stood there barely throwing and looked so slow and stiff.

I agree that Holyfield would be a good choice for the task.

Holyfield would be an excellent candidate. Even James Toney for that matter. I will explain about toney, cause I know thats a bit of a stretch: Fury is not explosive. He tends to take a while to return his arm on his punches. this makes him vulnerable to a real counter puncher. I could see Toney countering fury and using his shoulder to slip fury's overhand right and avoiding the jab.

Guys like Liston who had great footwork and decent footspeed, and could finish a guy in trouble would also be trouble for Fury. Fury would lose his reach advantage against Sonny and have the ring cut off on him. Liston could box very well... and had power and aggression that would trouble Fury.

How about young Foreman and old Foreman.

I can see Fury and young Foreman do the Ron Lyle thing for a few rounds. Pick um!

I see old Foreman losing a UD to a quicker Fury but he never stops him.

Dempsey, imo, because Fury doesn't really know how to fight a small man and Dempsey can destroy mountains.

I think compact power punchers would give him problems.

            Frazier, Tyson, Dempsey, Holyfield, Marciano.

I think Foreman, great fighter that he was... is made for Tyson. Permit me one instance of boxing snobbery; I refuse to take the second coming of Foreman seriously in any ofthese evaluations... I know I know... its me, lol.

Ali was Ali. But essentially he was able to beat Foreman out thinking him and preparing for his shots on the ropes. I think Tyson could outbox and frustrate Foreman. Tyson is big enough and has reach to not let George assert himself. I would seriously consider Tyson a live dog in this fight and even go with him.

Cuningham right? I also would like to see Fury fight a real seasoned boxer who can counter punch.

Neven Pajkic is like 6'2" and also put Fury on the ground before the big man got up and stopped him.

Thats interesting... It kind of throws a little shade on the way we talk about a good chin versus a bad one doesn't it? Louis used to go down fairly easy as well, but usually got up again, I believe even against Shmelling that first fight, he acually rose... Someone who remembers can verify, or correct me lol. So Fury definitely goes down, but gets up again. IMO to me if a guy can do that they have a good set of whiskers.

I have actually seen some rounds that looked 10 8 but could be a 10 9 because a guy got up and won the rest of the round.
